So somehow on both of my rides this weekend, I came about arms length from hitting a deer!  Yesterday afternoon on turkey creek on my way down to deer creek canyon road, I'm buzzing along in aero at about 25 mph and all of a sudden, bam there's a deer right to the right of me!  Thankfully he didn't turn to because I definetely would have faceplanted into deer belly!  I saw another one this evening at cherry creek state park, two days in a row, crazy!  Oh yea, saw a rattlesnake yesterday taking up the majority of the bike lane coming back towards chatfield too.  Any crazy wildlife stories out there?

I don't have any crazy stories, but I almost always see deer at Cherry Creek State park. Especially if it's an early morning or early evening ride. Yesterday though I was going on a ride around the reservoir about 8pm and the birds were flying right next to me. It was so cool...they were literally 10ft. away from me and we were side by side!!

Fox kits at Keystone on Sunday.
Mountain biking up the mtn - Keystone employee told us to look for them 2 switchbacks up and there they were. Mom was wary of us but they weren't alarmed. Not exactly a wild story, but not something we get to see every day.

Saw a bear in my 'hood once on a jog. Baby. Glad there was a fence and ditch between us because I'm sure mum was somewhere nearby!

Saw two coyotes Monday, mid-morning run...thought it was odd they were out at that time, figured the other woman on the trail + me, maybe they spooked from their resting place.

Had a dream this morning about snakes, little ones, running barefoot trying to avoid stepping on them...

edit: why the ef hasn't my avatar switched back to the other pic yet??? why does that take so long anyway?

Years back I came face-to-face with a bighorn sheep coming down waterton canyon.  He'd stopped in the middle of the road, and clearly had the right-of-way!

Last night - saw a deer with two fawns that couldn't have been more than a couple hours old. I was on the trail going down the switchbacks in Waterton Canyon. It was close to dusk, so most of the bike traffic had already gone down the mountain. The fawns could barely walk and were falling all over themselves when they finally got off the trail into the trees and brush.  Right after seeing the deer, I saw a bighorn sheep jump down the cliffs into the road. I was afraid there were more sheep coming down with him, so I had to do a quick look up the cliff wall to make sure one wasn't going to land on my head. Normally I see them in "herds" but this one was by himself today.

I had a bee fly down my jersey and sting me.  I've also had some close call with butterflies.  And moths.  On a run last week, I had ladybugs swarming about.  But I made it through that run...

My most interesting encounter was one day riding up our bike path and I saw two tourists taking photos into the hillside. I thought it was just a deer or something. As I got about 100 feet from them, a moose charged them. Then she saw me, changed her direction and charged me right down the bike path. I slammed on my brakes, unclipped, spun the bike around and sprinted the opposite direction. It sounded exactly like a horse chasing me.

Eventually I looked back and she'd given up. Once she walked down the hill away from the path I rode up to the tourists who had no idea they'd just escaped certain serious injury and maybe death because as it turns out there were two moose and one was a calf.

I wish I'd gotten their names because they probably have photos of the moose chasing me.

I went on with my ride and and hour or so later when I got back to that spot the two moose were just standing on the path which was now closed by police with lots of cyclists waiting on each side of the closure. They also had personel on the freeway down the hill ~100 yds away so that they could close it to allow the moose to cross back into the wilderness. After an hour or so of waiting the moose went down the hill and they opened the path.
