It was funny because reading some of the race reports it seems people think that you should buy shoes at a rate much different than I think.  I am new this year to the sport so, how often should I buy new shoes?  If I train for 6,7, or 8 months and my shoes don't hurt my feet why would I buy new ones?  May be a dumb question but I don't know the answer to it!!!

Are you talking about running shoes?  If so, I replace mine every300-500 miles.  Being that I am running 20-30 miles a week right now, I replace my shoes about every 4-6 months.  I can really tell a difference in my feet though, as the mileage starts getting close to replacement time.

It depends on the shoe. My light weight trainers I replaced around 600k and my heavy cushioned trainers around 800k.
I usually have three pairs of shoes in rotation so I can not base it on calendar time.... best way is to track mileage.

It really depends on a few other things; personnal feeling, terrain, type of training and care. As a general rool of thumb, 300 miles is pushing it for race flats and 400 to 500 for neutral to stability shoes. Good luck.

Every 3-4 months. Then again I weight 210-215 and tend to kill the cushion in my shoes fast.

Yes, I can tell a world of difference when I switch to new shoes.

It's not your feet that will feel it. It's your shins, knees, hips, back. When I start getting hot spots in my shins and/or mild shin splints I know I should have already gotten new shoes.

haha I wish I could afford a new pair of running shoes every 4-5months...I've had mine for a year, they still feel comfy to me and don't hurt my feet. I can't afford them at the moment because other things are a priority...like a new bike haha Granted I also don't run 30 miles a week  in them.
