Subject: Half-marathon training plan
Hey y'all -

I am looking for a good half-marathon training plan to get ready for a run in October. I am not doing any tri training right now outside of the occasional visit to the pool so a plan that has me running 4-5 days a week is not a problem.

I train with a HRM, so a plan that includes training zones would be best. And I already have the Galloway plan on PC Coach, but I just can't embrace the run/walk method of racing.

Any good recommendations for a 12-16 week plan? Thanks for any input.

Hal Higdon has a lot of loyal followers:

Looks good.

If I go this route, I am sure I will be tempted to follow the intermediate plan, but the smart thing is for me to go the novice route.

I'm just finishing up the Ultimate Marathon training plan from the Runner's World website, and have thought it was pretty good. There's a 1/2 mary program in there as well that looks allright, but I haven't tried it.

I did do Hal's 1/2 mary plan, and I've preferred the Ultimate plan to Hal's full one. It's worth a look-see, anyways: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,5033,s6-51-55-0-6851,00.html

Thanks.

I'm really looking forward to getting back into racing. And I have a decent sized group of friends that will be running it with me. Should be fun.

Any more options would be appreciated.

I'm planning to start the 17 week Jeff Galloway run/walk 1/2 marathon plan as soon as my tri season is over in early November.
I've already signed up to do the Indy 500 Mini Marathon next May - it's a 1/2 marathon which includes a lap of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
I enjoy running, but it is definitely my weak leg. My long weekly run now is about 4-5 miles, but I'm slow as a turtle.
I figure that doing the half in Indy (besides being fun) will help support my goal to move up and do an Oly tri next year (and maybe a 1/2 Iron in two years?).

I'm one of Hal Higdon's followers.

I used his beginning plan for a 1/2 marathon, then used his beginner plan for a full marathon. Completed both races with respectable times and, most importantly, no injuries. Try it out!
