Subject: Problems with my Garmin 310xt

Hi,

I've been uploading my activities data from my Garmin 310xt for a while now.  Lately, I'm having a lot of trouble uploading data even though I have erased all old data.  The last two attempts where unfruitful.  Can anyone advice on how to solve this?  I even did a hard reset and I'm still with the problem.

Please advice... Nelson

Hi, 

Thanks for the promt response. 

Answer to Q1- I haven't erased data from my computer.  I don't know how.

Answer to Q2- When I try to upload the data, the system identifies my Garmin, then I press get data and it starts getting the data until it says transfer complet and then no data appears for me to select and upload.

The data most likely hasn't transferred to your computer from the 310xt.  Garmin Communicator doesn't actually read from the device, it reads from your hard drive after the data has transferred.

First, press the lap/reset button and hold it until the Reset counter finishes. Hopefully that will force the data transfer. If not, I've sometimes had luck by taking it out of range of the ANT stick and then walking back in range.  Honestly, I've found the 310xt ANT+ data transfer process to be finicky and unpredictable.

I've also had luck by turning off the garmin, close the ANT software on the computer, unplug the ANT device, plug it back in, turn garmin back on, then open software again..  Like Mike said, it appears that it is not taking the data from the garmin and putting it on your hard drive.

if you do a search for .tcx files on your computer, that is where it stores all your garmin data on your computer.  BT then searches that file to upload todays workout.  you can go in and delete all those tcx files if you want.  helps speed up the upload to BT.

Garmin really hides the files.  Generally speaking, they are on the program drive...mine are at something resembling the following path:

Jennifer's Computer\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Garmin\Devices\Bunch of numbers that indicate the device\History

I think the key is "Application Data" versus looking in the program files like I assumed they would be.  They are not!
