I just made my regular bi-weekly visit to the bike store and saw the flyer for the Tour de Bronte. Bike race in Oakville in April. Anyone do this one before?

Oh, I just noticed they have a 30k mountain bike race.  Hmm...I think I may hit that one and make it a test/warmup for the Paris to Ancaster.

Haven't raced it but rode the course.  Not quite cyclocross but definately not a road ride.  You could probably do it all on a road bike if it is dry.

I may be wrong but there's a 30km race that allows mountain bikes but all the other distances require road bikes (or cross bikes that meet road bike standards).

It's Ontario's version of the european spring classics.

Actually, the mountain bike race ONLY allows mountain bikes, even though it could be run with a cross.  Yes, your right, everything else has to be road or cx bike specd.

I've never done a road race before and I've noticed that there's various categories. How would one know which category to enter?

Yeah those categories are a little confusing.  They're based on the OCA (Ontario Cycling Assoc.) licenses and you can sort of get the jists of them here I think: http://www.ontariocycling.org/oca-membership/types-of-uci-licences/
