Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I finally got around to watching Captain America the other night. I really do like the way they've integrated the universe and weaved threads from the different movies together (the super soldier serum enhanced by Stark technology, Banner trying to recreate it using Gamma Rays, etc). But there are two apparently gaping holes that I can't get over. 1. In Captain America, Red Skull has extremely advanced weaponry that can presumably only work with power supplies provided by the tesseract. At the end of the movie, the tesseract falls out of the plane. Howard Stark finds it using a submersible. Since he looks just like he did during the earlier scenes, one would presume that he finds it not long after Cap's plane goes down. So, if Stark and the U.S. had the tesseract for 70+ years, why are there no working weapons using it's power when The Avengers starts up? They had some new designs, sure, but apparently no production weapons. Near the end of the movie, they're reduced to firing a nuke at Loki to try and stop him. What possible sense does that make? Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War I and II, Afghanistan. The U.S. decided through all those conflicts not to even produce the weapon designs that Red Skull had come up with? Howard Stark, your top defense contractor, found the damn thing and you haven't done anything with it? You took it away from him and hid it in a hole? 2. That leads to the second. Howard Stark found the tesseract. How is it that Tony doesn't know about it or any of the designs? You're going to keep your STILL top defense contractor in the dark? Hell, with the tesseract, Tony would have been on the Mk XXVIII suit by the time The Avengers events happened. If they had just left the tesseract buried in the arctic with Rogers, all this goes away. Stupid, nerdy, rant, yeah, but I'm bored this morning. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have you read Marvel comics? Don't even get me started on the death (err...sleep/coma) of Superman, where Doomsday breaks out of an underground bunker, sees a wrestling match on a TV and decides to go enact SummerSlam 1992 on the Justice League. (although I guess that was DC trying to save their sinking ship at the time) Or how "Wolverine" butchers Deadpool in a most epic fashion. Or X-Men 3. Or Spider Man 3... good god... I want to forget that one... Edited by Leegoocrap 2013-08-06 3:00 PM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't read the comics. That's a whole different kettle of fish when it comes to consistency. When you have canon that covers 50 or 60 years, you almost have to have alternate realities, time travel, etc to be able to do anything new. But for a few films that they'll reboot in less than 10 years, you'd think they could keep it straight. |

In IronMan 3, Air Force One came under attack, and Captain America and the rest of the Avengers were nowhere to be found. I could go on like is all day. Let it go, dude. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Spider-Man mutates to shoot webs or designs web shooters. I guess they finally got it right. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm still trying to figure out how the Monkeys fly in The Wizard of Oz. Their bodies seem much too large and ungainly for flight--especially with the relatively small wings. They'd probalby be more like flightless winged Monkeys--kind of like ostriches. |

I believe the answer to your question is that the tesseract was deemed too dangerous and too little was known about it. So it was locked away to keep it out of harm’s way. (Much like the Ark of the covident from Raiders.) As for Howard Stark he did do some test with the tesseract and it blow up in his face. Knowing how egotistical he was I am sure he just stopped working on it so he did not look stupid again. The decision to release the bomb at the end of Avengers had mixed feeling. My guess it was out of panic. (The real reason was to make Robert Downy the real star of the series) However, I do see your point. The ones that get me going are from DC world. Superman 2, were Superman can rip off his "S" and wrap up bad guys with it. What were they smoking? or Batman Rises, when Bruce climbs out of the pit and throughs the rope back dow so all the bad guys can escape. Again, what were they thinking. |
