Subject: Just signed up for 1st tri, training class, and this forumHi!
I'm Andrew. I walked my 1st 5k last July 4th with no previous exercise (very slowly ). That made me decide to train for the Swamp Fox 5k on Labor day. I ran that in 34 minutes (very slow but a big step forward from July ). I kept exercising but not "training" after labor day but the holidays kicked my butt. I didn't gain much weight but I lost the exercise bug with nothing to drive me.
So this week I signed up for the Pigman Triathlon http://www.pigmantri.coma sprint distance triathlon within 10 miles of my house on June 1st. I also signed up for the "Triathlon Training Team" at the local Aspen Athletic Club. They claim it is for beginners wanting to prepare for their 1st tri or experienced athletes looking for structured training with a guarantee that I'll end the 12 week class in considerably better shape. The class meets 3 times a week for 2 hours each time.
Since I joined the club this week and class doesn't start till the 15th I decided to hit 2 spinning classes and spent about an hour in the pool this week. I survived both spinning classes and even tho I'm in no shape to swim a long distance I was able to feel comfortable in the pool. I've been reading the Terry Laughlin triathlon swimming book.
So I guess I've jumped in with both feet and now have 4.5 months to get into better shape.
