Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 FloridaDon't bring running shoes that you care if you trash. They will NOT ever be the same after the 'trail' running. The run is three times a 4.3 mile loop around Ft Wilderness campground (pavement ), between Ft Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge (1/2+ the loop and on grass/dirt trails ) and then back from Wilderness Lodge to Ft Wilderness on another short section of pavement. The problem with the trail and shoes is that it's dusty and your feet get wet either from sweat or from the water that you purposedly dump on yourself in an attempt to cool and then the dirt just embeds itself in the shoes. Result- shoes that are never the same again.
Swim- not wetsuit legal and can NOT pre-swim the course. Not open until race morning due to Disney boat traffic.
Bike- fast but not totally flat and expect wind-from multiple directions.
This is my third year in a row doing the race. I've done better organized and certainly done worse but the course works for me as it's got the potential to be fast and the location works for family. |
