Subject: Music, or other cures for insomnia?

I'm a bona fide insomniac (technically defined as "one who cannot sleep despite being tired". Anyone have any suggestions for good music to listen to prior to sleep? I've cut out caffeine after 4:00 pm, no TV in the bedroom. Any other suggestions? Thanks. :-)

Lots of things can be going through your mind....  Do you work shift?  Do you eat late??  Maybe check w/ your doc?
As far as music goes, lots of "nature" cd's:  ie loons, waterfalls, wolves howling - wait maybe that won't work, you'd be getting up to 'p' often or you might shoot the wolves to shut them up !!  <img align='middle' src='https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/images/emoticons/smile.gif'> LOL

Good luck !

A nice hot bath, and I mean VERY HOT, before bedtime will certainly go a long way to relaxing you enough to sleep.  You might try a cup of warm milk and some soft natural sounds such as falling water or wind chimes.

Have you tried melatonin? Worked for me. I've been having sleeping issues for the past couple of months, particularly dealing with jetlag all the time. Friend of mine recommended a drug store brand melatonin and it's worked wonders.

Good luck!

Make you bedroom as dark as possible. Black out you windows. Even cover up the digital clock.

I usually listen to an audio book or old time radio show.

I started to take a sublingual pill call GABA Calm. It is an amino acid that is suppose to stimulate a chemical reaction in your brain. The chemical it releases is suppose to induce relaxation. I do most of my workouts after midnight and then go to bad afterwards and was having a hard time sleeping also so after taking this a few times it help put me out. I like Melatonin but the problem with that is if you miss a day you might not be able to sleep well that night because the body stops producing as much since your ingesting it. If you decide on the Melatonin I suggest the sublinguals with those too. As long as your consistent with it you shouldn't have a problem with it.

There are several yoga practices specifically designed to help you sleep. When all else fails, I get up and do one of those.

I recommend "Yoga Nidra" CD. Well, it is not music but set of practices doing while lying in bed with, no movements. If you don't fall asleep (it is not ment to but for me it is very hard to stay awake listening to it), at least you will be refreshed and relaxed.
yoga nidra means yogi's sleep - it is said to be a good substitute to sleep - very usefull

hope this helps

ps. I can't sleep if i drink coffe after 2 PM
