Subject: Marathon training plans for me...help?

Any suggestions for a marathon training plan for someone who wants to use the training as a force-myself-to-run-lots-and-improve-my-running?  I’ve done only one marathon, and really enjoyed the whole experience (from training to marathon-ing).  I used Higdon’s novice plan.  I was more than prepared to complete the marathon.

Any thoughts on the intermediate plan?  Maybe I should stick with the novice plan?  The BT plan?  Something else?  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Go with the Beginner plan or the Intermediate I.

Yep, Higdon's Intermediate will work.

Depending on how serious you are about improving your running, I would suggest (and i'm shocked that Rick didn't) Advanced Marathoning. Not just for elite wannabes, great for training fundamentals and anyone who wants to improve their running.

Thanks!  I'll check out the intermediate plan and that book as soon as I press submit.

I never know if someone's ready for 5/6 day runs at 55 mile weeks yet .....

I would still recommend it even to someone (like me) not ready for 55 mile weeks.  The book has a lot of great info, and I am planning to use the basic structure of the plan and just cut back on the miles some so that it ends up around 40 mpw.

As Bear mentioned, he was surprised I didn't recommend it ........ because I'm a HUGE proponent for it (thanks to him).

Definitely worth the read even if you don't follow one of the plans (which I would normally recommend).

I guess it all depends on where you are currently at with your running, how much time you have to train and what realistic marathon goal (time) you are aiming for.  Remember that running has more impact on the body than the other two sports we do, so you might want to go for your own version of the intermediate plan, somewhere inbetween the novice and the intermediate plan and build on that yourself to begin with.
