I am looking for some insight from some of the Lower Mainlands finest. I am currently trying to decide between 2 bikes for my first serious road/tri bike. Both are the same price and wanted to hear what others had to say about them.

1. Felt F5 Carbon with a 105 component set up

2. Cervelo Solosit Team with Ultegra components

I guess the big question is would you take the down grade in components to have a carbon frame or is the Cervelo aluminum frame going to be comparable so go for the better components.

The other big difference is where they are from. The felt is at Tri 3 in Port Moody...Great service and I trust they will set me up right.

The cervelo is at Caps and I am not quite so confident in them..Not sure why, just a vibe.

Would love to hear some opinions because I am torn. Thanks Guys.

In addition to fit, you'll want to consider your gear ratios, 9 or 10 speed, and crank length. Usually the price of the components are inversely correlated with the weight. The lighter the components, the more expensive they are. If you go to the top of the line, you're looking at big money, and the weight reduction isn't as significant from the next best group set.

I would check out the weights of the 105 group versus Ultegra. Basically you want to maximize dollar to weight reduction. For example, maybe putting a lot of money into a group set would only save you 400 grams, but that same money put into a better headset or wheels would save 1000 grams.

Don't know enough about the two bikes to offer advice of which one but I do know that the difference (for me) riding carbon and aluminum was like night and day. Much smoother ride on the carbon. Much easier on me.

Also check to see what the shops are going to do for you. My LBS has lifetime free tune-ups and maintenance on my bike for as long as I own it (read HUGE $$ savings!) - what do these guys offer?

I really like Tri 3 Sports, Peter really knows his stuff, especially when it comes to tri's.

I pretty much agree with everyone else here. This is just my preference but go with the felt, there are way to many cervelos. of course you dont have to listen to me. lol

I'd probably go with the Cervelo, but I'm sure both are great bikes and you won't really go wrong with either one. The fit is most important as they say. I heart Canadian and my next bike is going to be Canadian made.

I think Caps Westwood is excellent, I heard Caps Richmond isn't so good, so I guess it depends on which Caps you are dealing with.
