Our tri club swam the York for practice on Thursday.  Brrrr very cold....67 degrees!!! Like swimming in ice water (even with the wet suit).

67 would be the warmest OWS I've done yet this year, the bay is still in the low 60's. Looking forward to the race.

Really looking forward to seeing the CAT club out in full force.  Hope to do as well as last years time. Since I cut part of the run course last year. Went out the wrong gate and didn't know until after the race.

You probably will be fine. We had Breezy Point today and the water temp was 72 and plenty of people were going without wetsuits.

With the warm weather this week, I think the waters going to be alot better than when we did our practice swim.  It's getting down right hot around here!

Do you remember what the water temp was last year, Sue?  I didn't wear a wetsuit and I remember the water feeling great.  But I think it was low 70's, but not sure.

The Colonial Area Triathlon club will be having it's Thurs OWS at the York river. It will start at 6 pm. by the fishing pier.  Let's hope the water is warmer than two weeks ago.  It was 67 then.

Is there any current where the swim is?

The York River is tidal, so it usually has some current.  Last year they couldn't figure out in which direction to do the swim since the current was running against the wind (which created huge chop).  I think they try to have competitors swim with the current, but this is just based on having raced this one last year.  Good luck!

stumax - 2008-06-04 2:06 PM Is there any current where the swim is?

Yes, and last year it had a huge effect on swim times - in a positive way!

For anyone who's interested, the tide chart shows low tide at 7:52 a.m.  So, the tide will be practically slack when waves go off starting at 7 a.m. with not much assist from the current this year.
