Time for a new thread.  I'll start with a prediction:  Celtics in 7.  Paul Pierce finally gets his due as an elite offensive player (for the casual fan, people who watch know "The Truth" ).  Kobe is fantastic and blows up for 40 points a night at home on Rondo and Pierce, but only (only!) 30 a game at the Garden.   Let the games begin!!!

I remember and loved to watch the old Celts vs. Lakers match ups. I would like the Celts to win but.......Celtics will find themselves in foul trouble and have to rely on their bench in every game. Lakers 4-1. I'm not saying the Celts play dirty. The Celts play hard and the league won't let ANY team play hard against the Lakers. Any fan who does not care for the Lakers is aware of this 'tendency.' Lakers fans are oblivious to this and will probably jump my a** here. Just an observation, please don't take offense.

Lakers steal one in Boston and win 3 straight at home, Lakers in 5

Lakers in 6.

Lakers are a finesse team. As someone said, the Celts will get into foul trouble because of their physical style of play and Kobe and Co. will eat the bench alive.

I expect a 7 game series. The winner, for me, depends on which Boston Celtics show up to play. They've been so hot and cold the entire season. If both teams play at their highest levels, Boston will prevail. I'll take them in 7.

We can pretty much bank on a 7 game series. The NBA/refs have done everything they can to string out every series up to this... why would we think anything else will happen in the Finals? More games - more profit. And they're all going to be well over 3 hours.

I know it is over, but can someone explain to me that crazy foul where Pierce got his defender to jump at a shot fake, took the three, made it, and then the guy landed on him and they called an off foul?

I do believe that the refs are given some "instructions" prior to each game and series.

Lakers in 6. I don't think the Celtics have played anyone in the playoffs as good as the Lakers or San Antonio (7 games with the Hawks???).

FWIW, I hope it is a seven game series with each one deserving its own merit on ESPN Classic,  I love both of these teams and love the historical tie-in.  I just don't see it happening this year.

LA is over-rated. I'd take Boston, Detroit, and maybe even Cleveland over the Lakers. San Antonio was a solid win. Other than that, I'm not so impressed.

For you guys in LA, are people on the radio talking more about the "good ole days" rather than this series?  It's getting kind of old here.

It's usually a good bet when you bet against any team coached by Doc Rivers,, he'll mess with the rotations, which will nullify the bench players & non superstars effectiveness. Plus this is the first  Doc, KG, Allen, or Pierce finals,, if they were a nervous wreck for a Hawks playoff game, they will lose at least one they should win just do to a silly mistake

I think they should make this a true "throwback" series, back to when the NBA was FAN-tastic!!  Bring back the ultra-short shorts, pre-air jordan high tops and above-the-calf socks!!

Pierce always saves his best games for the Lakers. Always. His career avg vs the Lakers is much higher than overall and he is among the NBA's top 5 scorers vs the Lakers too.

very true,, with him being from the LA area, he always does well,, and if my memory is right it was after Pierce torched them (lakers) that shaq grabbed a mike and said,, Paul Pierce is the (*&^&%(&*% truth,, write it down,, I think that is how he got "the truth"nickname"  but

Still not sold on Doc Rivers or with KG being so intense all time time being able to take it up a notch higher.  Usually it comes down to the role players for one side having an unexpected great game or even half/quarter.. and the way Rivers plays around with his rotations that cuts the role players chances down quite a bit

Celtics. Because Kobie Bryant is a huge poopy head.

Lakers fans - the most bandwagon and apathetic on the whole planet. At least Knicks fans still show up and boo when they're bad.

Hmmm, since 2000, have been 7th in league in attendance (except one year 8 and one year 9, last 5 have been 7).  Even with a 30 something win year.  seems pretty consistent to me

It IS living up to the hype!!  Larry Bird just hit a 3 from the baseline to put the C's up by 2 with about :20 to go!!

Oh, wait, I'm watching the ESPN Classic Celtics-Lakers Finals marathon.
