Morning everyone!  I'm back from vacation

I had a wonderful time!  No weigh in for me - I ate and drank waaaaay too much, but did manage to get some workouts in at least.

The best I can say is that I passed the moment of truth when I could button my shorts at the end of the vacation

Here's the spreadsheet info

Well done Beth, hope you had a great vacation and it was a good rest. I was away at the weekend but managed to moderate my food and didn't go too far overboard I hope. The scales will tell on Thursday!!

I'm back! Haven't posted on this thread in a long time. I weighed in at 146 this morning. I'm training for IMFL on Nov. 1. Now that my training is increasing, I'm finally dropping a little weight. I've been doing much better with my eating over the last couple weeks. I switched from WW "Core" to "Flex" online this week. Had great luck with "Core" last year, but can't seem to get into it this year. Will try "Flex" for a week!

Hey everyone - had a decent week - hope to at least drop a lb come weigh in on Weds. Ran a 10k last weekend and won my AG. Also, my 2 yr old daughter ran her first 1k

Hi Beth (and new faces!). I'm trying to get my groove back on. It's so aggravating, since I was doing so very well just a few months ago.

I'm sure this has been discussed ad naseum elsewhere, but I'm wonder if you ladies can share with me what type of saddle you use. I'm having a really bad time with mine and am thinking of investing in an Adamo.

Hi Y'all.

My third and fourth weeks back on WW, after 1.5 years not going to meetings, and I'm finally seeing success!  Was frustrating first few weeks as I actually gained, but then saw a -3.4 last Thursday so my MoJo is newly found.  I'm also training for a 10 mile run two weeks from Saturday, so that's forcing me to exercise.  I had been thinking of my first Tri late September, but now I'm not sure.  Would need to do a lot of swimming to make that happen.  I do get my first wetsuit this week - and then will find out how I look stuffed into it.  Not looking forward to that!

Hi Terri!   Sorry, no saddle advice from me.  I'm using the seat that came with my Schwinn hybrid, and it's gel-filled and comfier than most road bike seats.  First 3 or 4 long rides of the year are painful, but the callouses set in and things are better!

Hi Beth - thanks for the shoutout on my log the other day.  I was struggling for awhile there to get some activity in!

 Nick

I managed to stay the same this week. When will I learn to cut out the sodium rich foods? I made "pepperoni" pizza Sunday night and of course added green olives to it since the sodium in the 'pepperoni' wasn't enough! LOL All in all I'm happy with the maintenance because I know part of it is because I haven't been drinking water the last 3-4 days like I normally do.

Here's to next WI!

At least you didn't put on weight Terri, stick with it and the losses will come. As for saddle advice I'm still using the one that came with the bike and it squeeks like mad which is quite off putting. I have no idea what make it is but wouldn't reccomend it anyway!

I'm having a good week so far but did that bad thing of stepping on the scales half way through the week and I'm trying not to be put off by the fact that it shows that I'd gained since my last class weigh in.

Hello!

I just thought I'd stop by and introduce myself.  I've been on and off WW for about 6 months now.  I decided I needed a goal besides losing weight, so I've now decided that training for a triathlon will help me to focus my exercise program.  I am thinking of switching to the Core program, as the problem I've had with Flex is not always making the best choices, even if I stay within my points.   Then by having things around (like 100 cal packs of cookies), I can sometimes go a little overboard.

Do you all do Flex or Core?

Gain of 1.2 but not surprised. It just shows me that if I stay on the plan a little better, I can have great results.

Hi fenella. I *heart* the 100 cal snacks too. They keep the sweet tooth monster at bay. I do *flex*

As to my saddle problem, I'm switching out tonight to a *fat bottom girl* saddle that I had on our mountain bike. There's very little 'nose' to it, so we'll see. I'll give it a week, then I'm going shopping!

Hi Everyone!

I'm new, and also training for (my first!) tri and doing WW. I did WW a year ago with great results (flex points plan - lost 20 lbs in 4 1/2 months), so I'm doing it again after a stressful year and weight gain. My tri is at the end of September, I am in week 8 of my training and I love it so far! The only problem I am running into is that I am STARVING all the time! I have an allotted 22 points per day, but I am usually doing two sports per day, 6 days a week. I wonder if I am not eating enough because by the time I complete one sport and move on to the next I am completely out of gas!

Has anyone else experienced this?

I should also mention that I do not give myself the "extra" points per week, nor do I deduct activity points. This is mainly out of habit, since I ignored both of these things during my last stint with WW. I found I lost more weight that way, however, I also wasn't training for a tri.

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

You're starving because you're starving yourself. If you're not going to *eat* your extra weekly points you should definitely be eating your activity points. And since you're doing 2 programs a day, I would recommend you use those points for sports fuel (like Endurox, Accelerade, Citomax, or even good old chocolate milk!). You'll see a difference in how you feel and will continue to lose.

P.S. Welcome

Thanks. That's what I thought was happening, but I just wanted to make sure that others in the same position could confirm it. I will definitely start paying attention to my activity points. I think I have been afraid to do so because they would add up to another 6+ points per day. That's a little bit shocking.

Anyway, I'm really happy to have found others in the same boat as myself Laughing!

You really should be eating your weekly points too, but as a start, I'd suggest you eat at least 1/2 of your APs a day. FYI, 1/2 cup of low-fat chocolate milk is 1.5 points, and I add 1/2 cup of non-fat milk to it to fight off my hunger monster after I swim A great protein source for only 2.5 points and I always have both in my fridge.

I will definitely have to try the chocolate milk. My largest energy deficiencies seem to creep up on me after swimming (usually I swim for 15-20 min, then run for 10-15 min). For instance, last night after swimming I went for a short jog and started to feel light headed and nauseated. I am still not even sure when I should eat protein and when I should eat carbs. I've asked about this at my WW meeting, but no one seems to know (the main form of exercise done by my fellow WWers is walking only). I've been eating a banana before each workout, and that seems to help but as far as balance goes I am at a loss.

I am finding it is MUCH harder to do WW now than it was back when I was only walking.

So do you use all of your extra points every week? Or do you only use them only sparingly when you're feeling hungrier than usual?

I use every last point most of the time - especially if I'm on a high volume week

if I'm on a taper week I don't

The rule of thumb is to eat carbs before the workout to provide energy and protein after to repair the muscle. Most recovery drinks have protein added to them.  I ahve also read a couple of articles recently that state that next to breakfast the most important meal is the post work out meal and that it should include protein.   Right now I am not eating carbs before my run and bike workouts because I am working on losing weight.  This obviously causes a decrease in my performance.  However, I am not training for a specific event right now and my main goal is to drop a few pounds and give my knees a break.

Hi all, welcome to those that are new.

I'm on the points/flex plan - where you live depends on what it's called. I usually use at least half of my earned AP's and can't imaging not doing so. I agree that you'll be starving if you're training as well as only using you points allowance.

Beth - I really should learn to stay off the scales! I lost 2 1/2lb in the end and am into my next stone level this means I'm only 1 stone something overweight! Hurrah!

How's everyone else getting on?

Hello all,
I have done 12 triathlons over the last 3 seasons. I have been a avid road cyclist for the last 5(mtn biker for 10yrs before that). I was tired of being the "fast and fat" guy on my group rides. (it is fun blowing by guys 60-75lb lighter on hills though) I need to drop about 30-40lb to get to an ideal weight for me. (Im currently 5'9 214, age 35) Im rather thick in the thighs thanks to racing BMX as a child/teenager. Im a decent swimmer, fast cyclist (avg 21.5 @ the florida 70.3) but my weight really hurts my running. If I plan on finishing a full IM I need to drop some weight.

I just joined WW tonight, how does it work here? Should I post weekly loss/gains? I will post my progress.....
thanks
Bryan

Hi all,

Just thought I'd check in.  Things are still going crazy, and my sanity is hanging on by a thread.  I wish I was the type that LOST my appetite when I was stressed vs eating everything that isn't nailed down and is relatively chewable.  Sometimes I even eye up the beta fish  I keep in my office..and I'm not a huge fan of seafood.

My last tri of the season, an oly, is coming up in about a week.  My training has been dismal at best, non-existent in reality.  I will make it through, and I might even get a better time then my previous oly due to lack of hills, but we shall see.  My one saving grace is the fact that I am doing a bootcamp 5x a week for an hour a week (I paid for it...and if I miss it, the drill instructor will kill me...), so I'm at least moving.

Oh, and if I wasn't already crazy enough, I start school in about a month.  Yeah...smart.  I'm cuckoo for coco puffs...

Bryan - welcome and I wish you every success with your weight loss. You'll see a link to the googledocs excel sheet that's set up for the group in the starting link for this weeks thread, if you sign in you can add yourself to the chart and post your weight losses there. A lot of us also post them here so people can see how you're doing and also cheer you on when you need it. We seem to be quite an active and social group and it's good that we can ask each other WW specific questions.

Anything else you need to know just ask!
