I'm in -- only my 2nd HIM.  I love doing tri's out in Montauk!  The drive sucks, but the race conditions are amazing.

Hopefully some time in the near future they will have a full Ironman in Montauk!  The swim could start on Shelter Island, or even better in Montauk and we would swim 2.4 miles from the South Fork to the North Fork, bike down the the North fork and bike West for 50 miles and then turn and bike 60 miles back East, up the South Fork to the Hamptons, and run two loops through Sag Harbor and the Hamptons and end back in Montauk.  That would rock.

That's a great idea, I see a future for you as a race director!

I honestly don't mind the drive out there at all. I've always found it to be very therapeutic and relaxing. I'm about 60 miles from Montauk Point, but have driven out there on two occasions just to clear my mind.

As a matter of fact, the only thing better than driving out there is biking out there!

I just booked Monday at Sole Beach. It was one of the ones on the Event Power site under "accomodations within walking distance." They have two properties and both had vacancies for the weekend as of then.

I had called three others off the list that were sold out.

Name: Sole East
Number: 631.668.2105
Rate: Starting at $110 for the SoleEastBeach property / $200. for the Sole East Inn Hotel / $240 for the Garden Suite rooms in the Sole East Inn property.

I called the Sands Motel...its right near the race site, they only had 2 night packages, but we kind of liked that idea.

For anyone that's raced this before -any suggestions for race attire - hard to tell from the RR's seems like conditions have been all over the map over the last few years. The hubby and I are heading up on Friday and staying till Monday (vacation for us!). I'm so excited (and terrified)Surprised The training is kickin' my A$z!

I have yet to sign up for the race, or pick out a hotel - but I am fully commited to it. I suppose I'd better get on the ball about it.

My training was going well until this weekend. Between coming down with an illness and this Wall Street fiasco, my training has taken a back seat for the first time in months.

Im worried about attire also...at Hamptons 07 I was freezing and never warmed up until halfway through the run. I cant imagine a half like that!

I hope everyone has been doing hill repeats!  Murder Hill I hear is, errr... well ... you know - and we have to run it twice!

I'm staying at the Atlantic Terrace with the wife, two kiddies and au paire.  We're like a small traveling cricus.  We booked Saturday and Sunday.  We won't be staying Sunday, but I need somewhere to take an ice bath, then shower and lay my head after the race.

I'm going to post my goal as sub 5 hours.  just kidding.  Ha!  Actually my goal is just to go sub 5:47 - my July 70.3 time.  With calmer waters than my last 70.3 (ocean swim), being more familiar with the Montauk bike course, and having logged more running recently, I feel pretty confident I'll get err done.

GOOD LUCK to everyone - especially all you HIM Virgins

I hear you -all I kept thinking during my run today (especially over the Brok. Brdg) was -crap if its this cold here it must be even worse out in Montauk. Time to go shopping for some warmer race attire -I've never raced outside the summer months and I am not a happy camper in the cold. All part of the challenge I suppose. Hope everyone is training hard!
