Subject: Fueling for HIM
Hello all,

I have a burning question, I am training for a HIM at the end of September. My question is this, while training on my long bike rides I take HEED (15mins) and GEL (30mins) witihout any issues.
When I do a long run I use a Gel after the first 30 mins, and use HEED for the rest of my run.
Will this type of fueling suffice during a HIM. This will be my first one, and I have been doing sprints for about two years. (6'3" - 207lbs.)

Sounds reasonable, but not sure how many cals you're getting from the HEED.  You're getting about 200 from gels already and I would think 250-350 cal/hr on the bike is a decent place for you to try.  If the HEED is more concentrated, you might find that it's a bit too much in race conditions.  But it's all individual, so if it seems to work for you then probably just stick with it and try it out.

Mostly liquid is a good idea on the run and something in the 100-200 cal/hr is probably a decent range to aim for--which sounds about where you would be at.

+1,

I think he's on the money.  pay attention to fluid intake and calories.  Those numbers will help determine what your body can tolerate.  Find your sweat rate by weighing yourself before and after to determine how much fluid you should be drinking.  16oz = 1 Lb
