I cannot speak for the IMKY people, but when I heard that an oly. I was doing last year might be non-legal for wetsuits I bought a Desoto Speedsuit.  I played around in the pool with it and my westsuit and from seat of the pants timing I lose about 10 seconds per 100 in a 500 with my wetsuit in the pool compared to normal swimming and with the speedsuit it was about 1 - 2 seconds per 100 in a 500 over my normal swimming.  I also did the speedsuit after the wetsuit, so I was more warmed up ......

The premise is that it is more "clean" through the water than a tri top.  It didn't really add much heat to the equation, so no reason not to if you can afford to swing it and are looking for any extra edge you can get!

I would be a definite advantage over a tri top. If I can't come up with a speedsuit I'll end up wearing my fastskin legs and put the tri top on in T1. I'm considering shaving my upper body if I go with the fastskin legs but that's the swimmer in me.

I can't justify spending the cash on a speedsuit for a few seconds when I already have the fastskin leg suit. Just my $.02!

I just ordered a blueseventy pointzero3+ for some added advantage. Not cheap ($295) but I am worth it

It has been my big debate also.  Is it worth it?

My choices are the Xterra Velocity .02 which, if you are doing IMKY, you can get a $100 off with the "IML100" code, so you end up paying $150 plus shipping.

Or going with the BlueSeventy PointZero3 from TriSports for $200 with the BT Performance member discount.

I've heard differing values from 5-10sec/100 down to 1-2sec/100, largely depending on your swimming level.

<my rambling justification>
At 5sec/100, you're talking about a 3 minute difference over the course of an IM.  Can I make up that 3 minutes somewhere else and save myself the cash?

Probably.  But how am I going to feel if I come in at 13:02?

How about you buy me a medium and I'll let you draft off me for the first 15 minutes.

Actually interesting thought, the tt start lends itself to an organized draft on the swim for anyone who is planning & cunning.

What a generous offer from a guy that beat most of the PROS out of the water at Wisconsin, and you had given them a 10 minute head-start.

Are you planning to doggy paddle those 15 minutes or just flip over and back stroke it?

Well there is something to the speedsuits. It is a debate that goes back almost a year ago where Jim Riccitello - head referee at Kona, hints that 2007 might be the last year they are allowed.
