Expert 1158 Ocala, Florida | Subject: Trainer advice and reputable online dealers I've come to the decision that i really need a trainer for my bike. So many nights when i get home from work after working 13 hours that i haven't the motivation to go out and ride. Plus with it getting dark, i need something i can use at home and see my wife and little boy at the same time. Soooooo, i've done some searching through old threads here and it looks like the Cycleops and/or Kurt Kinetic are the tops recommendations for trainers. So does anyone got any secret online retailers that sell either of these rather inexpensive? Any good sells going on? Also, since i'm a newbie to biking and trainers....is there any other accessories i need along with the trainer? Are there some good DvD videos that has good programs to follow and train with? What exactely do i need to get me started? |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Trainer advice and reputable online dealers Nashbar wattmaster fluid wireless. That is the cheapest way to get power measurement for your cycling. A veteran elite triathlete friend told me to get that trainer, and to become a "watt weinee" in order to improve my cycling. Unfortunlatey, tho, I have a trainer already, and can't really justify buying a new trainer. When my Cylclops Magneto wears out, I'll be buying the Nashbar. I love the Magneto, btw. The Nashbar Trainer is on sale right now for $299, DANG I want one!!! Here is a Link to it. PS: I love the Spinervals DVD's. I attribute my strength in biking to doing Spinervals once per week for about two seasons. I kept asking for them for my birthday and Christmas, and now have a nice collection: "No Slackers Allowed", "Suffer-o-Rama", "Muscle Breakdown", and "Uphill Grind". Gotta love those titles, eh? Ok, I probably would just b/c I'd be so dang curious what was going to come out. But $200 to not know?

Well, then you wont get it. Or you could call that retailer and ask about details of the secret deal. But my understanding is some manufactures will not allow a retailer to advertise a price lower than X. They can sell for less they just can't advertise it. Anyhow. If you look at my first 2 posts in this thread its pretty clear (ok you might need to click the link on the first one to see the item sells for $217.99 and put that with the 2nd post and you should be able to figure it out. If not Call Tom D. at bikesportmichigan and ask him. |

I found myself thinking, if it's a great buy, wouldn't they sell more if they just told people what it was. Thanks for clarifying. |

Shoot, that's so bad that should fill my quota for the week. Yes, I am completely making fun of myself. |

Suffer-o-Rama is my favorite. It consists of intervals to build power and speed. No Slackers is also intervals. The other two (Muscle and Uphill) are hill workouts to build strength. All of these are intense 45 minute workouts that will leave a puddle on the floor beneath your bike. These workouts are so intense that I cannot get bored on the trainer. I believe Spinervals also makes some longer DVD wokrouts that are for building endurance. I have not tried those, because if I'm not doing an intense workout, I would get bored, like I do when trying to watch TV or a movie. I have tried that, but just find it too tedious, so I'd just as soon ride out doors. But, I never get bored doing Spinervals! Same story with treadmill (boring if workout is easy, not boring if hard) Edited by keyone 2008-08-19 6:55 AM |

Extreme Veteran 580 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Trainer advice and reputable online dealers Spinnervals 13 - Tough Love. 3 hours of pain and sweat, it's highly recommended (by me.) I'm going to add a couple more before the winter too, specifically some time trial and strength focused ones. They're great workouts, though I do play the "Commercial game" a lot during football season. If you're not familiar, you spin at a moderate pace when the game is on, and when they pop to commercials you crank up the resistance and speed till the game comes back on. Yes, I'm easily entertained.... :D |

Extreme Veteran 580 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Trainer advice and reputable online dealers The nice thing about the Tough Love DVD is you can do parts of it instead of the whole workout. This is really important if you're working on building your aerobic base on the bike. Tough to tell from your logs, but I might also recommend #16 - Aero Base Builder #1. It's a great, hour long workout designed to build the aero base by keeping you below your lactate threshold. It makes for a great "easy day" workout too in the winter. |
