Her longest day was 22 miles. Man, I don't know if I could even think about getting in the water some days!

I think its a little impressive just from the fact that I have seen several discovery channel shows on the amazon river and all of its little wonders such as bugs, huge snakes and many other animals with teeth...This guy is bad for just spending any length of time in those waters..

ipull........i thought you were talking about the amazon swimmer, he used a wetsuit but thats it. the 325 mile swimmer used a wetsuit, flippers and a snorkel, not the amazon swimmer. my post was in utter amazement that you didnt think his 3000+ miles wasnt impressive....my bad

It was the girl that used the snorkle and flippers. The guy in the amazon didn't. At least not that is what the article said that I read.

They are both half crazy.  The amazon guy more than the girl.  The article about the girl actually mentions the guy.  He swam both the amazon and mississippi (not sure which was more dangerous).  I remember reading about the guy swimming the amazon and they said at certain points they had to chum the waters away form him to draw the pirahana away from him.  He also had to worry about some pricker fish thing that likes to crawl into small holes and insert barb hooks (or something to that nature), and this could be especially painful for guys to have removed.

yeah if you cant see more than a few inches in front of you thats just not my style. he had to wear a white cloth with eye cutouts over his face while he swam sometimes cause he was getting burnt so bad. and the skin on the inside of his elbows and knees was completely raw from the wetsuit. it also said he lost 34 pounds from the start of the swim to the finish.

proudfoot youre right, hes not all there

Benoit Lecomte and Guy Delage both swam across the Atlantic Ocean. You read that right. They swam across the Atlantic Ocean.

There have been skeptics of Delage's claims but in 1994 he did, in fact, enter the ocean off the Cape Verdes Islands near Africa pushing a small surfboard-like raft and was in the water almost continuously for the next 55 days until he washed up on the island of Barbados where an islander promptly called the police on him. The islander reported he had "found a drunk man who claimed to have swum from Africa to Barbados." Once police confirmed his identity he was hailed as a hero.

Delage holds a number of remarkable ultra-endurance sailing and swimming records. His 55 day crossing of the Atlantic was done solo and unsupported. He drank a special liquid diet stored in his surfboard-raft that also held navigation equipment and shark repellant that he reported "did not work".

Benoit crossed the Atlantic in 72 days with no raft but did have a support boat with him. His crossing took place in 1998.

I read these things and I think "those people are nuts!".  But it wasn't too long ago when I would read about triathlons and think "those people are nuts!".

Maybe we're "a bit touched in the head" to some degree.
