Subject: RE: How long should running shoes last? You should not need to break in running shoes. If you think they are causing blisters, you need to get a better fit. As for life span, there are several factors. I replace my shoes after 3-4 months, even though my mileage is relatively low. But as soon as I see some wear on the heel, I know I am getting less support. The age alone is said to cause some breakdown in the support. Mileage, it's usually recomended to change after 200-300 miles. Another trick is to get a second pair a couple or three months after the first, and periodically compare the "bounce" between the old and the new pairs. When you can tell a difference, the old pair becomes used more for day to day use, not running. (I assume you save the running shoes for running. Training and racing only, not going to the mall, or doing the yard work, or whatever. Until they are retired). |
