My son (almost 4) loves my chocolate Power Bars but I am not too sure if they are good for him.    He also loves Gatorade.  Besides the calories is there anything wrong with giving him these?

Gatorade has a pretty high dose of salt for a drink.  I've trained my 3yo that he only gets it when he's sick and he has to sip it.  Would you let your child drink tap water with a spoonful of sugar and salt?  Still better than a Coke, but not much.

Power bars...  It's a candy bar with better quality ingredients.

Do you give him the whole bar (240 cal)?

My son (8YO) loves the chocolate PB too, but he only gets half at a time.  He eats them before swim team practice.  It's nice because we get the box of PB at Sam's club, 1/2 Ch and 1/2 Peanut Butter, I get all the Peanut Butter.

Sam's also sells the Kids size Cliff bars and our kids like them a lot.  Sure better than many of the alternatives.

I would try the Cliff brand Z-Bars.  They are made for kids, and only 120 calories.  Also I would maybe drop down to G2  or one of the other low cal electrolyte replacement drinks.

FYI....I buy Z-bars by the box at Trader Joes.  Choc Chip and Brownie are best. Peanut Butter is awful!!  They also just came out with Blueberry and Apple Cinnamon, both are awesome when you can find them.  I think I found these new ones at Sprouts Market.

Oh....and they are great for adults too!!  When you need a little fuel, but not a whole Cliff bar's worth!

No, just half, if that.  I should try the clif bars but he loves PB.   I drink G2 and I usually give it to him with lots of ice or dilute with water.  If we don't have Pedialyte around we'll use G2.

Z bars are the bomb, my 4 year old loves them & they're way better than the other bars out there for kids..they come in great flavors, she literally chooses them over other snacks...I recommend peanut butter or honey graham..yum!

Costco has them now, as well.

Good to hear about the Z-bars. I'm childless but picked up a couple for a long ride on Sunday.  I don't like the shape of cliff bars when I'm riding because they're hard for me to eat.  And I like the idea of eating the whole bar not having to shove half into my pocket to get all smushed into the jersey.

I buy the Z-bars for my kids too, but I have also found that Target stores around me are selling boxes of the trial size Clif bars. Its a variety pack with 3 flavors. Those might be a good option for the kids as well (and or those times when you don't need a whole one)

I can't speak for all Targets, but the one by me had the boxes of Z-bars for $3 which compared to Clif Bars is a steal.  Although, if Costco has them, I should go pick up a pallet.
