Subject: RE: NY Area Olympic Triathlon in Octobermattdbrice - 2008-09-03 8:21 PM Not sure if I can make the swim distance of a Half?? Have done two olympics, so would feel better with that distance until I can work more on the swim over the winter...! Thanks for the info.
Isn't a HIM swim only .3 of a mile longer than an Olympic swim? So really it's only another 10, 15 minutes in the water... especially if you are wearing a wetsuit there's not a real big difference between .9 mile and 1.2 mile OWS. Just my flimsy opinion though. Now 23 miles and 56 miles/ 6.2 miles and 13.1 miles ... there's a huge difference, especially when doing both disciplines back to back. There's the Montauk Lighthouse Sprint on 10/4 ; Montauk HIM 10/5 ; Cedar Beach Sprint on 10/12. If you can swim an Olympic distance comfortably, I say you can do a HIM swim. Also, if you can bike 50 miles in training and have run a half marathon before -- I say you can do the HIM. Just stay within yourself, pace yourself, and you'll be pleasantly surprised. |
