I keep reading some articles about Michael Lovato in lake placid and the apology he had to make monday morning at the volunteer lunch. Were any BTers who were volunteers know what he did?

David tri's - 2008-09-15 6:55 PM Jeez, what a jerk.

I'm not seeing something here regarding that he was a jerk somehow.  What am I missing, seriously?

One lady was reall pizzy during IM Moo registration on Fri., two days before the race, and there were 2 participants that were VERY persistant on NOT WANTING TO BE TOUCHED AND LEFT ALONE!!!

I do not see what the guy said that would get anyone upset. Apology to volunteers for any athlete that took out their race on them? People are upset over that?

Sounds like from the article IM Lake Placid just got a Pro to come and talk to the volunteers and say thanks for what they do.  This particular one just happened to apologize "on behalf of every triathlete who has ever taken the stress of race day out on the volunteers" (from the linked article above).  Not something he did in particular.

um, perhaps the red sarc font?

(Stating this in a "just saying", "just the facts" tone) Technically, the red sarc font is Jeez, what a jerk which is using the HTML code "[ sarc ]" and "[ / sarc ]" (without quotes and spaces), or manually editing the phrase using the red color and the Italic font (Ctrl + I).  The phrase was only using a red font.  Technically, different.

My first paragraph was asking a question.

The second paragraph was informing an actual encounter that I experienced with a non-pro participant.

It appears that we aren't all feeling like we are understand each other.  Anything else we need to clarify? (non-sarcastic)

Doesnt sound like he did anything other than give them some props. Which they TOTALLY deserved after that day. Not that they dont in any race they volunteer for, but it seriously had to suck even more to stand out there all day in that crap

Wow. Yes, i was joking. I was really cool of the pro to come and talk to the volunteers at their post race party/meeting. The way I read the article was he gave a tounge-in-cheek apology to the volunteers as a way of thanking them for their efforts and acknowledging the behavoir of some of the athletes.

As far as the italic/red font blunder, I can only say I thought the red would be enough and didn't realize I had to italicize it as well. Jeez, what a jerk.

OK. I'll bite. I'll start another thread so as not to hijack this one.

I guess the lk placid news is'nt exactly hard hitting journalism but to me tounge in cheek means sarcastic or not genunine. So by that i assume it means something happened. Either way the volunteer did a great job. And I think this thread should be put out to pasture.
Besides I diddnt even think he was racing.

For those who don't know, Michael Lovato is one of the most sincere and down-to-earth pro triathletes on the planet.  He also happens to be one of the funniest.  I am sure he was heaping praise on the volunteers, especially since he was helping coordinate them at IMAZ in April.  He is an awesome person to talk too.
