Subject: SCT Better Than Sex?

Ok maybe that is overstating my feelings of The SCT.....but I would say it is better than foreplay! JOKE JOKE....

Seriously you guys in Atlanta have something special in the SCT.  After the last couple of years riding on the roads of North Georgia, it was nice not to have to worry about cars passing you or some 8 year old kid shooting pellets at you off his trailer porch (good story there).

I started out at the Floyd Rd Trail Head (Mile 4.2).  I rode the trail through Cedartown to mile marker 60.  My GPS told me I had traveled just over 60 total miles.  There is a new hilly section just out of Rockmart that may or may not be included in the mile markers on the trail.  Can anyone verify this for me?

I think I may have started out too hard, thinking the flat ride would be much easier than the hills I am used to.  I was pretty beat around mile 90 or so.

Long story short I wish I had that kind of training resource in my backyard.  I look forward to coming back and hopefully meeting up with some of you all.

It is definitely a great resource. I was planning on riding there today until gas prices jumped by like 60 plus cents per gallon and gas stations started running out. I couldnt justify driving almost 50 miles to the comet from Cumming.

I would agree that the SCT is a great resource, definitely! I am not sure, but the completely flat ride of the SCT is difficult IMO. Normally, on the out I hammer it, so the return is always a bit hard.

Coldfire,

I did the same thing....hammer on the way out and suffer on the way back in.  The false flats are really deceiving.

I know. My last long ride out there was 70 miles. I hammed the first 35 avg around 21.5, and for some reason I thought that I was riding slightly uphill the entire way. Little did I know, that I was actually going slightly downhill. So, the entire way back was rough. Finished around a 19 mph avg (tells you how slow I was moving on the reverse).

Oh, to touch on the mile markers. They are off. I normally start at the start of the SCT. My computer will be ahead of the miles up until 20-25 miles, then the SCT mile markers catch up, and get ahead. So in short, you have to go by your computer, and use the mile markers as guidelines.

The mile markers were set up before some of the tunnels and bridges were in place.  You used to have to take a path to a crossing in a couple of places.  By the time you get to Rockmart the mile markers are about .8 mile ahead of the actual distance.

That makes sense.

Duuuude ... you prolly need to adjust your saddle!

Seriously, it is a great resource - especially the further out you get.

It is a great resource. I'm a newbie and try to ride there at least 1 a week.

But I'm glad someone said False Flats.

I thought I was crazy the second time. I was like "this s*#t is NOT flat".
