Subject: dura ace upgrade??
I have the specialized dolce vita bike that has the shimano 105 components. I have the opportunity to get a dura ace 9 speed group through ebay and was wondering if you all thought that would be a wise thing to do?? Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160281758786&ssP...

I guess my questions to you all are: 1) Is this a good deal? 2) Would you buy used? 3) What's the most you would bid on this?

Any help/input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Not worth it. You're probably going from 10 speed back to 9 and used? I'd only buy that if you were building a second bike and were looking to go cheap. 105 is perfectly acceptable and works well enough for almost all of us here. You're not getting any appreciable performance gain. As for used, likely no again. Components wear out over time and that's got 4 years of use on it. I'm sure it's got signs of wear.

X2. Ask yourself, share with us, exactly what you expect to gain from this "upgrade."

It was really my husband that was thinking the upgrade might be a good idea (he has dura ace on his bike and loves them!). I think he was thinking the upgrade might improve the weight of my bike hence helping me go a little faster in my race. Also, maybe the shifting would be a little smoother for me???

I did a google search for dura ace vs. 105 and almost everyone says that 105's are good enough. I just thought I'd ask you all b/c there are some great racers on this site and I value your opinions.

10 spd 105 and Ultegra are more than likely lighter than odler Dura Ace.  And even worn a little, still have more trickle down technology from the current 10 spd. Dura Ace.

As pitt mentioned, not really worth it in my opinion (and considering I'm also a Dura Ace guy, that is an odd thing for me to say!!).
