I know there's whole forum dedicated to health and injuries, but I'd like to get an opinion from the general population.

I've been dealing with a nagging piraformis injury for 6 months, or more. The sports doc actually recommended some training, albeit decreased, during rehab. My rehab is generally lots of stretching and weekly visits to a physical therapist. Yes, it has improved. But, it's not even close to being fixed. Some days it feels great, almost likes it's gone, but then other days it feels worse than when it started. My only training during that time has been swimming and biking- absolutely no running. Sometimes I feel like the biking actually helps by stretching it out, but I wonder sometime if I should just stop training altogether, and stretch my azz off. I will say this, the biking at times does seem to help( tho who really knows) , but, it definitely hurts if I overdo it (30-35 miles instead of 20-24).

I really don't know where to turn. Actually, I do. I'm going to visit a few more doctors, and get an MRI which I have not done yet. But, my question to my fellow exercise enthusiasts is: do you wait until you're completely rehabilitated before you resume training, or do you restart when you're feeling a little better, and mildly train thru it? I know it's subjective, and it can depend on the injury, and maybe I'm just looking for sympathy or to rant, but I'm also curious.

Thanks

Big Joe,

I had the same problem a few years back.  I found a product called the "Periformas Wedge" that you would lie on top of to stretch out the pelvis and let the muscles release.  Good Luck!

I would ask your doc for a prescription for physical therapy with a sports physio. I had an awesome crew help me get back from my knee surgery. They knew I wanted back into sports, adn they tapered my rehab to achieve that goal. I did a 72 mile ride at altitude 5.5 months after my surgery with their help. Hang in there...injuries suck, but attack the injury like you would a tri. What I mean is develop a plan and execute it. Use whatever resources you can.

Good luck.

Thanks Jeff, I will try the Wedge, can't hurt (I hope).

Hey Aggie, I neglected to mention: I've been going to PT. Started out 2x/week for 2 months, then weekly or at least 3x a month, and doing the work at home most days. It feels great when I leave, but I don't feel like I'm "cured". I believe it's better, but 100%. What I'm worried about is that I've been misdiagnosed and am rehabbing the wrong injury, which is why I'm going to get an MRI. I'll continue the PT.

do you guys wait till you're 100% healed before you come back? or do you slowly come back while still rehabbing? I'm bored and I actually miss running (never thought I'd say that)....
