Subject: Tri too soon??Hey all, I am new to the boards, introduced a couple weeks ago, and had some great response from a few of you. I have a goal of finishing a sprint tri before my big 4-0 in March. I don't see any scheduled around that time yet (plus I'm thinking water is REALLY cold), so I am considering the Blue Water Tri in Parker next month. I have been working out consistently for about 5 months, dropped about 30 lbs, but only really started "tri training" about 4 weeks ago. I have always been real athletic and have been up and down in my shape/condition over the years. I have looked at the training programs for the sprint races, and I seem to train quite a bit more than that already. I swim 1000 to 1600 followed by an immediate spin class on Mondays and Wednesdays; I either do 45+ min on elliptical at a "variety" pace to change it up, and/or run 2+ miles in addition to lifting; I have a long swim with different pace and sprint training on Fridays; and I just got a bike yesterday so I can start Saturday morning rides. I feel like I am progressing well and feel strong during all my training. My concern is that...I feel really good/strong, but I am concerned that I am rushing into a race and may be biting off too much too soon. I would really appreciate any advise from any of you race veterans. Thanks All Scott |
