Subject: NOVEMBER - 5X per Week USMC PT Challenge

The United States Marine recently went to a new Physical Fitness (PT) program that took the required training time from 3X per week to 5X per week.  So I thought, why not turn this into a BT Challenge.  I now we are only a about half way through the Oct Challenge, but since I had this idea now, I thought (with a little encouragment from Super Cat) why wait.

Here are the rules:  A PT session must be at minimum 30 minutes per day, but what you do for PT is up to you as long as it hold training value.  A massage does not count as PT, though I wish it did.  Basically if it is cardio, strength training, or athletic sports it is fair game.  For each PT session completed you will get a point.  It is a hit or miss system, so only one point allow per day and only if you get the 30 minutes required for that day.  With a little room for those overacheivers there will be a max of 22 points allowed for the month.  That is based on a M-F schedule that the Marine Corps Follows which is 20 days in Nov plus a 10% extra.  The most points allowed during a week will be 6 points and that is only allowed twice.  If there is not many challengers then it will be person with most points earned wins.  If there are enough challengers then I will break it up into team at which the team with the most points win.  If there is a tie, I will come up with a way to determine a winner though I don't have one currently.  If you have an idea for a tie breaker please share your thoughts.

To simplify the month, I will break it down into four time periods.  The cut offs for the time periods will be Nov 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 30th.

As always I will do my best to accomadate team requests (if we need them) as best I can.  Anybody else in for the Challenge??

Maybe you should think about making a separate team for military, or excluding military as this is just a normal day...

But I'm in. Even with my schedule, I can handle 30min. a day.

Interesting. Not sure if I can commit yet - working through some issues that are derailing my workouts. Hopefully, though - it'll be a great excuse to finally add some ST to my weeks!

I want in too! I need the push to get through the Turkey/pie Month. And this should be just the thing. I am not in the military, but the Hubby is/was Marine. So he will help to push. As he thinks all things USMC are just great.

Thanks,

Chris

That is a good idea, that I didn't think of.  I am unsure on the other military PT programs, I am only aware of the Marnes, since I am one myself.

I'm Army, but my unit doesn't do organized PT since we do shift work. There are others here that do it 5x a week though.

Count me in! But I already have a question: if one was to do a 20 min tempo run immediately followed by 10 min of strength training would that count? Or does it have to be 30 min of one activity?

BTW I promise to remove the scary clown baby on Nov 1!!

Since many of us have training plans that call for multiple activities in a single day, some with less than 30 minutes for a given activity, it would seem fair that as long as we get in the 30 minutes for the day we would get the point.

For example:  today's training for me is 26m swim & 56m bike.  Well exceeding the 30m total, but the swim is 4m under.  Tomorrow is a 26m run - I would need to add on to that in order to make the total.

In the military, PT isn't always 30 minutes of a single activity...it can be multiple activities that cover the given time period.

Just MHO...I'm NOT the Challenge Master!

For the fairness to all, it is at minimum 30 minutes in a day, doesn't have to be in continous.  I am sorry that I did not clarify that in the original post.  I hope that now clears it up for everybody.
