Subject: 2009 IMFL Registration for off-site people
I heard IMFL sold out online in 2 minutes last year. Is that true? What are my best chances for getting in for 2009? Any tips or tricks for how to sign up on active most quickly? Should I get an army of folks ready to sign me up in volleys, in case of a connection error?

Thanks,
rb.

If you are not going to be actually on-site, it could be that you will get shut out.....in some cases (IMLP) there was zero online availability the day after the race becuase everyone that was onsite filled all the spots.

That being said, the new policy of having to pay when you "register" on-site may change this or it may not........

 Finally, if you personally are not there, no one else can sign up for you....new rule last year I think.

If you are trying to register on line, start trying at least 30 minutes before it opens on Active. Make sure you are logged in on Active, and just hit refresh over and over until it opens. For IMFL it opened early last year (like maybe 15 minutes early??) and I know Wisconsin opened early this year also.  Have all of your information/credit card/etc. ready to go and type fast and have a good internet connection! Good luck!

Not that I'm registering, but was just curious... being that the race is on a Saturday is online registration on Sunday or Monday?

 It did sell out in a couple of minutes.  I was on active.com about 5 minutes early and keep refreshing the screen.  When I finally got onto the registration site, I thought "OH S**T, WHAT HAVE I DONE!?!?!".  The rest is history and hopefully on November 1st, I will be an Iron-Babe!

I'm volenteering at IMFL so I can be there to register for next your.  I got an this email about how they have changed the onsite registration so you may have a better chance than you think.

To all

For those of you who are volunteering and plan on registering for Ironman Florida 2009 please read the new guidelines below.(also attached) They apply to volunteers also.

New Onsite Registration Procedures for North America Sports Races
October 10, 2008

Due to the tremendous growth of onsite registration, North America Sports will be implementing new onsite registration procedures. These new procedures will launch at Ford Ironman Florida and will be as follows:

?     Each athlete will fill out a form that will include their first & last name, birthdate, email address and phone number. This form will also include instructions on how the registration process will work. You will need to bring your photo ID and a credit card for payment, no checks or cash will be accepted.
?     Laptop computers will be used by our volunteers to take the prospective athlete?s contact and credit card information on-site. The volunteer will enter in the prospective athlete?s information directly into Active. They will then get the athlete?s credit card information and charge them the race entry fee.
?     The prospective athlete will receive a copy of the form they filled out as a receipt, which will outline when and how to complete the registration process. They will also receive a reminder via email.
?     After receiving the confirmation email the athlete will have a spot reserved for them in the event. However, the participant will still need to go back to Active.com during a specified timeframe to complete their online registration. Any athlete that does not follow this procedure will not be considered registered for the event.
?     The athlete will follow the same on-line procedure as before. They will access the Ford Ironman Florida event via a specific registration link, select their name from the athlete drop down bar and enter in their unique password. However, the online entry will not have a payment associated with it as they have already paid the entry fee.
?     The athlete will receive a set amount of time (1-2 weeks) to let them complete the registration.
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->

This system will ensure fairness to all athletes wishing to sign up for NA Sports races. Under the previous system a number of certificates distributed at on-site registration were not redeemed and this created a situation requiring NA Sports to reopen on-line entries. People who attempted to enter on-line immediately after it opened and were closed out may not be aware of the additional spots available at a later date. This should no longer be the case going forward.

This new procedure allows the prospective athlete?s information to be put directly into the Active.com database so that it is accurate and has no chance of getting misplaced. It may take a little longer in the beginning so we ask that you be patient with our volunteers and staff.

Thanks for volunteering.  See you in November.

Steve

Last year, IMFL opened 9 minutes BEFORE they said it would...I'd heard a rumor that it would, so I'd been pressing reload from 15mnutes before the tme t was supposed to open (I practiced fillng out the form many times (it was important cause both my husband and I were registering, and if only one got in - that would STINK!)...

Anyways, it ended up being open for 11minutes - but at a certain point, the server was pretty stuck, and it was hard to even get on the active site...

So, my suggestion - start getting on the active registration page for IMFL09 at least 15 minutes before it is going to open...

GOOD LUCK!

I'd suggest getting on early to try to get in, but when they did IMC on line entry twice. First time it opened about 5 minutes early. Second time it opened exactly as stated.

Just be ready with everything to enter your data fast...USAT card, credit card and perhaps a back up as one IM on line registration folks has issues with a certain type of card, contact information, everything you might need.

Once you get into active you don't necessarily get a spot. You don't get in officially until you hit pay and they acknowledge you. Being slow filling out forms hurts your chances of getting in.

I was excited first time IMC opened up but was slow filling out forms and called my husband to check one last time if I should register, once I hit pay now it was to late and I got caught in Active mess of the page not loading and waiting and waiting. I wasn't sure if I was in or not until I heard back from them.

Second time it opened up I filled stuff out and hit pay probably within 2 minutes of getting in and it went through fine.

so now we have a FIFTH discipline in triathlon...online registration

Do we have a date for next year yet?  I'm hoping it's Nov 7, which would be the first Saturday in November...it'd also be a great way to spend the day after my 16th wedding anniversary
