Assuming I can get my training re-started (get my butt back in gear) I'll be running the 1/2.

Same here. I signed up for the 1/2, but the winter makes it really hard for me to keep my running up.

I was thinking of following a 10k plan to get ready for this one, but it looks like the BT silver run plans go from "Couch to 5k" straight to Half Marathon. (Half Marry starts with a 1hr run on day 1, which seems like it may be a little too aggressive.

Hmmmm.... time to dig around the web, I guess.  Anyone find a plan they really liked for this goal?  It's my top run distance, I'm already feeling a little "off-season" and having a hard time transitioning to cold weather running so looking to add a little more structure to my training.

I highly recommend the Smart Coach training plan builder from Runners World.  It is completely customizable.

It looks like we'll have quite the party Sunday night!  There is a bluews bar in Hyannis with free food and beer after the race.  Let's take it by storm!

Thanks!  I've forgotten about those -- I tried the Couch to 5k way back when, but it was hard to follow with the varied timing so didn't stick with it.  The 10k plans seem much more straight forward, tho.

Wow -- that's pretty awesome that it takes your prev race time into consideration to set your pace.  That's super helpful!  I think we've found a winner   Thanks, Scott!

I've signed up for the 1/2 as well (my first) and am looking forward to starting this training plan from Runner's World next week - it's a 10 week program.

 http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-244-258-9369-0,00.html

I think it looks great because it is only 3 days a week (intervals, a tempo run, and a long run) and also uses recent 5k or 10k race times to set a goal half mary pace and specific paces for each run.

Good luck to everyone with their training!  AND - does anyone who's run this in the past have any advice or comments about the race to share???

Only 3 days a week, but looks pretty intense!  Good luck on your first 1/2!

It's actually a pretty interesting course.  It has enough changes in direction to keep your attention, but not so many that you think you're running around the block 150 times.  A perfect description would be "rolling terrain" with no steep up or downhills.  The hardest part comes on the stretch along Craigville beach and only if it happens to be a windy day.  If it is, you'll surely have a strong headwind for that stretch, perhaps for a mile or so.  The first few miles of the race are reasonably protected on tree lined roads so that you get a chance to warm up fast if you're worried about what to wear.  My suggestion if you're not sure on race day is to wear an extra outer layer, something cheap and discard-able like an old sweatshirt.  Then you won't miss it if you toss it off (do it at a water station).

Have fun...I've run the 1/2 on two occasions.  One day the temp never broke 30 degrees, and it was low 20's at the start, the other time it got well into the high 40's and was a great day!

In order to motivate myself to get out there and run, I signed up today.  We should definitely try to coordinate getting together after the race.  It should be a lot of fun!

OK despite my intense dislike for running, I think I will sign up for the 10-K, so if there is anyone who plans to run at something near my pace, I'll be there to laugh it up and have a good time.  I'll probably run just fast enough so that I don't cough up a lung or something.  11 minutes per mile...I can probably go faster, but am also happy to go slower.  All the fun is at the back of the pack!
