... a new hardwood floor in my boys' room.

About once a year, I'm able to justify the serious coin I dropped a few years ago on a mitre saw and a table saw...

A good mitre saw and an 18-volt drill are some of the best investments any homeowner can make. Mine have paid for themselves over and over.

What type of product or brand did you end up using? Mrsmdg and I have yet to come to terms on which wood flooring option to put down. We actually bought Bruce a few months ago. She made me return it once we took some out of the box.

It is a lower-rung quality engineered wood.  In-fact, it is the cheapest hardwood you can buy at Lowe's.  Comes out to around $2 / sq.ft.

I've used these engineered wood planks in the other bedrooms in our house b/c we use area rugs and we're really replacing the hideous carpet that was previously in the rooms.  We're planning on refinishing the hardwoods in the hallway, but for whatever reason the previous owner ripped out the floors in the bedrooms and laid plywood (and nasty carpet on top of that).

We spent the real coin on the hardwoods we installed/refinished on the whole first floor - but I don't remember the brand.   For that, we had a crew come in and spend 3 days installing and then another crew spend a week refinishing the original wideplank pine hardwoods in the sitting room and dining room (house was built in 1888).

I know how "working girls" feel, the backs of my knees are killing me from rubbing on the straps of the knee pads I wore...

i laid tile floor in a bathroom last weekend and will finish it tomorrow and move on to another bathroom.  it feels good to step back and go "wow, my home is more beautiful and I DID THAT!"

i get to fix the wall and carpet in the living room too, a home improvement project i wouldn't be doing if i didn't have a pipe burst in the wall on sunday morning.  joy.
