Subject: Ever get cleaned by a shrimp?

My hand, cuticles getting cleaned by a pederson cleaner shrimp.  The cleaner shrimp in Hawaii will happily jump into your mouth and work on your teeth if you let them

The white down below it is a corkscrew anemone, in which pederson's live.  They will come out of their hole and twitch their anntennae when they want something to clean.  Also living in that hole (can't see it here) are usually snapping shrimp.  If you put your hand inthe hole and tickle their anntennae they'll come out and snap at you, hence the name.....

Great picture Chris! I got a great manicure from some shrimp/crab type creatures in Barbados. My crustacean ID kung fu is very weak. I think they were Arrow Crabs, but I honestly don't know their name. The other species was some sort of shrimp, but I know that most of the "banded" shrimp are Pacific, not Atlantic species, so I wouldn't even know what to call them... It was certainly one of the coolest things I've experienced. Cooler than sharks in some respects and you know how much I like sharks Thanks for sharing the picture. It brings back great memories.

Amazing picture.  I live in Eilat Israel.  I see the red sea outside my living room window.  After viewing your picture I think I'm going to sign up for a diving course.

Amazing, live in Eilat and don't dive?    I did one dive in Eilat in 1999 at the Dolphon dive center.  I was staying and diving in Aqaba.  I also took a trip down to Dahab and dove there for a while.  Just a little south of that, Ras Mohammed, is supposed to be some of the best diving in the world (there's a wreck called the Thistlegorm with motorcycles and jeeps , all just as they were left when it sank)

There's tons of great diving right around you, get certified!!!

I have never had a crustaion clean me but I have had heaps of "cleaner wrasse" clean me.

Cobi...all I can say is DO IT! Best diving I ever did was in the Red Sea!

Chris I dove the Thistlegorm! It is amazing. We have some awesome video and it is really amazing how intact the motorcycles, and train cars and rubber boots and everything are! Ras Mohammed is also incredible! One of the reasons the diving is so great is because the laws are so strict and so much of the diving is in preserves.

I also love diving in Hawaii. I was there a few years ago during whale season and a humpback and baby swam about 10 yards infront of me. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen!

Man I need to plan a trip!
