Subject: Finnaly FOUND the Garmin problem yesss...
Hi everyone,

I found finally the problem with my garmin I was not able to download on my training log.

I delete my cookies and delete the garmin communication programm.  After Patricia send me an e-mail about the same problem she got I try what she did but nothing was working. Now I delete my cookies and the garmin communication programm and restart my computer. After that I went on that link http://www.zdnetasia.com/downloads/pc/swinfo/0,39043052,39580453s,0...  and I register on my desk. After that I close all the application include the internet end I connect my garmin and open that file on my desk I download before. After it tell me I have an old version and download a new one and I ignore that information and don't download the new version. I open the internet and go on my log and try to download my training on my log and now everything is working again. So don't download the new version because it didn't work with our web site and our log book.

If that e-mail can help you everyone I will be happy.

Have a good training

Yep, that worked for me as well. I had downloaded the new version Saturday night when I was having problems, but when I uninstalled the new version and reinstalled the old it appears to be working OK.

Thanks for that Frank.
Another member found the same thing.  I've attached the previous version of Garmin Communicator to this post to remove a step in getting to it. I've run it through AVG 8.5 (ant-virus) and it's clean.

I'll be contacing Garmin today to see if this has been officially recognized as a bug and if there are plans to correct it.

If anyone who's experienced this issue could post the following information it would be helpful in determining the source of the problem:

1 - Device model (Forerunner 305, 405 etc)
2 - Software version on the device (NOT on your computer. This is generally found in the "About" screen under Settings")
3 - Computer Operating System and version. eg Windows XP Home SP 3.

Thanks again Frank, good work!

My dad is having this problem as well.  XP Pro, IE 7.  He just got a new 305 last week, so would have gotten the newer ( and apparently buggy ) version of communicator.

I'll point him at this thread and see if the 'downgrade' solves the issue for him as well.

Any chance of being able to upload/parse .TCX files?  Or will communicator be the only way to get data from a Garmin device?  Being able to fall back to uploading a TCX exported from Training Center would be nice backup method.  And potentially easier to import historical workouts and such.

Yes, the 'downgrade' to older version posted here did the trick.  I am now able to upload to BT.  Cool!

I second the notion of being able import from *.tcx files.  They are in XML format (i.e. plain text) so should contain any data necessary for graphing and parsing should be pretty easy.

I've got the same problem. I can upload a route, but not a workout. I'm installing the older communicator now.
1 - Forerunner 305
2 - 2.80
3 - windows xp home v 5.1

I've got the same problem.

1 - Forerunner 305
2 - 2.80
3 - windows xp Pro SP3

Downgraded to communicator 2.6.4 and it's working ok

Does 2.7.1 work for anyone?

YES, i think we really really need another way to import workouts in BT. I hate when I chose the wrong mode at the beginning of my workout and then I cant upload the data!

FINALLY!!  I didn't know how much uploading my workouts to the training log supported my training.  With no accountability, my training really took a tumble.

ETA:

1. Garmin Forerunner 305
2. Software 2.90
3. XP Professional with SP3
