Subject: What is too messy for a Trail Run?Well, last night was the 3rd in a series of trail races a group of us have been doing. They have been great fun, but last night was a bit extreme. It started raining about an hour before the race and continued the rest of the night. The trails seemed very difficult to say the least, it was walk up hill, walk even slower down the hills, and maybe run a little bit on the flater areas. Even then I would say I went down more than a dozen times, some times just to a knee/hand to catch my balance, sometimes all the way down, mostly on my tush. I was taking it easy as I didn't really want to get hurt in a race such as this. According to my Garmin the race was 3.5 miles (they claim it's close to 4) that put me at a 12:00 per mile (and change) pace. Much slower than I typically run these races. Even those that finished first were about 2 minutes slower per mile than in the previous races. My wife took an hour and 20 minutes to finish, she said by the time she got to parts of the trail it was so sloppy there was no running or even walking, you were going to slip and fall. I was covered in mud from head to toe after the race, used a nice little mud puddle to get the majority of it off and then a towel to fnish the job. So, back to my question, at what point would you say, it's too dangerous for me to run, or would you just run it anyway and go at a much slower pace as I did. |
