Subject: Water sloshing in my stomach during the run portion??
I'm wondering if this is normal, and if there is something I can do about it? Do I need to drink less on the bike or less on the run? Or maybe swallow less lake water. LOL!

I recently did my first tri ever which was a sprint and then the following weekend I did my first Olymipic. During both runs I felt like there was water sloshing in my stomach during the run. I don't drink much on the bike. I'm trying to get better at this! I drank at every water station during the run. Should I just be taking sips? I don't want to start avoiding the water and then get myself into trouble.

Any help would be appreciated

When you exercise, you are less efficient at moving things from the stomache to the intestines.  So if you drink too much too fast, you get the sloshing problem.  And when you stop, all the fluid gets absorbed quickly.

I would suggest training as you race - if you plan to drink on the race, drink on the training runs as well. Or keep yourself to smaller drinks of water at a time, so there is less fluid to move.

I used to have the same problem, here's what I do now:

1.  Go into the race well hydrated, drinking extra (or making sure not to skimp) in the days before.
2.  Get in a good bottle on race morning, with enough time to use the potty.
3.  Drink moderately on the bike, enough to go with my gels and to thirst.
4.  Only drink to thirst on the run (or a whole cup with my gel, thirst otherwise).

I end up a little dehydrated, but generally a LOT better off than before.  This just works for me, anyway.  Good luck!

It would help to know the distances you race, but I don't see any in your logs. I've had the sloshing before as well, and as the others have said, it's from drinking too much too quickly. For me, it was because I was paranoid about not being well hydrated. If it's a sprint, you really don't need much, if anything, during the race.

This is a good point, and my advice really only relates to my sprint, Oly and a few half-marathons.  Beyond that, like with your planned HIM, you will need to take on more water probably.  Just be slow about it.  You still probably don't need a cup of water at each station on the run.  Maybe considering bringing a bottle so you can sip?

Drink less on the run.

I carry my own handheld water bottle by Nathans... because I hate having to drink a whole cup of water at aid stations and I don't want to run with an open cup.

I can easily get sloshy stomach... but by sipping my water when I feel like it, I don't.

You are right, I have nothing in my logs. I am fairly new to this site. Also I'm not sure if I'll use the logs. I keep track of my training elsewhere. But I did say in my initial post that the races I have recently done are a sprint and then an olympic. I am also in training for a HIM in late July. I realize that I will have to up my nutrition during the HIM and I am starting to train with that more, but I got nervous about the sloshy stomach in the other two races. I was the most sloshy in the sprint and I only stopped at the first water station. The idea of carrying a water bottle might work, but I hate carrying stuff while I run. I think for now I will just focus on smaller sips at the water stations, and also do this on my training runs when I run by the water fountains.
