Subject: Spinning Class
Does anyone out there use a spinning class to supplement their bike training or even just ride using a spnning bike? (wouldn't do it all the time).  Any benefits or downfalls....?  I went to a spinning class this past week.  The instructor is a triathlete.  It was a great workout.  I went in to the Clubhouse today and used the spinning bike to do an hour ride and using varying degrees of drag on the wheel.  Weather wasn't all that great outside and so rode the hour and did a 10 minute run right after on the treadmill.

Absolutely, not as good as the road but when the weather is bad spinning class is awesome. I am much more motivated to put extra effort than going solo on a trainer. The standing will give you some huge quads, but you would never stand that much on a real ride.

Heck yes!  I used them all winter in addition to my trainer, breaks up the monotony & is fun.

Only in the winter.  Riding outside is much more fun, and it's what we're training for, so I would never go to spin class if I had the option of actually riding.

Yes, I spin.  Actually, I teach it.

And yes, given the choice, you're better off riding your actual bike outside (at least for developing bike speed).

There are several similar threads on this subject.  Perhaps try the search function and you'll get a lot of good info.

I try and stick with my trainer if I can not ride outside, but sometimes I'll through in a spin class just to switch things up a bit.
