Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Howdy everyone. I'm moving to Eden Prairie from Chaska and I'm wondering if anyone has any bike route suggestions? Out in Chaska it's a biking paradise with miles of country roads with large shoulders right out the back door. Is the best bike ride option to just pack up the bike and head out of town? As a side question, anyone use the Eden Prairie community center or the pool there? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I don't know specifically of any bike routes, but we live in Hopkins and we just ride ourselves out of town from our house. In EP you're close enough to the edge of the city that you should be able to head west and find the same roads you are familiar with. Makes for a good bike adventure! I have a girlfriend who swims at the EP Community Center. By all accounts it's very nice. I'd definitely give it a try before committing to a gym membership somewhere. I've been to the Flagship Lifetime (by the mall) and it's not very nice, considering it's an Onyx level club. Overrun by mommies and screaming kids. Just my observation. However, the Lifetime Crosstown location on 62/Baker Road is very nice. That's Platinum level, so a bit more affordable. It is also in EP. |

There are not anymore screaming kids there than any other club. There is a free masters swim class there every M, W, F at 6:00A and the lady who runs it is fantastic. There is usually a dozen people or more that attend. You will pay for masters swim class at any club below Onyx. I lived in EP for many years and just recently moved to Prior Lake. I dont think there are any bike routes where you can go miles and miles without stopping or where you dont have to worry about cars. Your best bet is to head back out to Chaska or the Prior Lake area. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I work from home so I could technically live anywhere, but the wifey would like to be a little closer to work and she works in the Carlson area. Plus we're moving up from a townhome to a house with a yard. The good unfortunately comes with the bad of no more super awesome bike routes. Trails in chaska are amazing as well. It looks like the EP community center is $59 for a couple per month. I'm guessing the Lifetime options are more than that? I like the sounds of a masters swim class but buying a new house has got me pretty mindful of the budget lately. Looks like I'll be missing Chaska cheap community center too. Maybe this isn't such a good idea! ![]() |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I may be a little biased against the EP Lifetime since it's been closed or under construction 50% of the times I tried to go. That gets old after a while. True, you cannot beat the shared membership to the EP Community Center. It's more than that for a single membership to Lifetime at the Platinum level. Congrats on the new house! Ride west and you'll be fine. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The EP Community Center also has spinning classes at 6 am and in the evening. They may have cut down on the number of classes during the summer. It's a great way to get some training time on the bike during the winter months. The Community Center also qualifies as a health club if your medical insurance will cover part of the cost. Medica pays $20 of the membership fee if you go 8 times a month. I believe both you and your spouse can claim this if you sign up individually. If both you and your spouse go 8 times a month it would be $24. ($32-$20) + ($32 -$20). It doesn't have quite the same atmosphere as lifetime, but it's a nice facility. I usually go in the morning and you can always get a treadmill or elliptical. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() "Your best bet is to head back out to Chaska or the Prior Lake area." But you can get to Chaska on the LRT - South trail, if you don't mind putting some gravel miles on your cycle. It is all very hardpack. When I lived in EP, I used to do a 3-hour ride which included about 5-6 miles on that trail, and never had a problem. There are relatively fewer walkers and no rollerbladers. It will get you to the nice Chaska country roads. I'm one of those parents with screaming kids who occasionally goes to Flagship AC. Love it. Child care is awesome. I'm partial to the Chanhassen Lifetime -- I feel more "anonymous" there -- but I like them all. When I lived with EP, the Community Center pool was awesome but the rest of the facilities left alot to be desired, but I know they have remodeled since then. |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know everyone is on pins and needles checking this post 2 or 3 times a day wondering how the move went, so here's an update. I went for a swim at the EP community center today and was very impressed. 8 or so lanes of swimming, no lane lines for that true OWS experience, none of the lanes had a water slide at the end of it, carpeted locker rooms with free locks and best yet, PRIVATE SHOWER STALLS! I know I'll miss the locker room showers with the 80 year old old dudes, but I think I'll manage the upgrade. Now if only they can install a chaska like biking road over here. I'm not looking all that forward to riding the aero bars on some of these roads. Oh well! Maybe I'll just get a pace car to help with the traffic. |
