70.3 Championships in Clearwater...have questions!!

Master  1563    Chicago |  Subject: 70.3 Championships in Clearwater...have questions!!Hi there BT gang...I need your help. My good friend qualified at the 1/2 in Kansas a couple weeks ago and I have decided to go down to Florida with him, and I am confused about the whole hotel situation with where the race is. Looking at a map of the area, there is the mainland, and then the island part...which one is the race on? I'm guessing on the mainland, so I probably want to stay away from the hotels that are on the island part. I am trying to find a hotel that is close to the race start...some that I have called (i.e. The Holiday Inn) say they're 10 minutes away, and we can either walk or call a cab...and I just don't know about how reliable a cab would be so early in the morning??? Any help/insight would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!

Stay out there if the price is right. I haven't been down there on race morning, but you may have trouble getting over there efficiently with the road closures. A friend of mine had an apartment off of Causeway Blvd. and got trapped there last year for the entire morning...couldn't get out to come mountain biking with the rest of us. |

Champion 6962  Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: 70.3 Championships in Clearwater...have questions!! The race is at Pier 60 which is on the island. There are tons of good hotels on the island. I would suggest doing that. If you have a good sized group, get a condo down there. We stayed at a condo (1800 sq ft) for like $210/night and it slept 10. It was way cheaper than an hotel and made for a great place for the afterparty. |

| Tampa, FL | Subject: RE: 70.3 Championships in Clearwater...have questions!! I stayed at the Hilton last year and could see my bike in transition from my room. Race morning I walked over got marked and did final bike setup, and then went back to room before the race start. It was the best location I have ever had for a race. There were lots of options last year when we booked- it must be before all the snowbirds get there. We found ours on VRBO.com, the place was awesome and about 4 blocks away from all the action. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the name of the condos and the contact name. |
