Subject: Timing chip question...
When I was getting ready for my first tri the guy at the tri store told me I need a ankle thingy to hold the time chip so I bought it.
I realized after my race when I got home the gal that took my time chip took the anklestrap too.
Is this something they usually supply at the race?  When I pick up my time chip will they have the ankle strap for me to borrow???

I don't have any experience with this (my first tri is tomorrow), but they gave us an ankle strap with the timing chip for my Sprint race.

At every race I've done they've always had the chips on a strap.

Usually they will provide you some means to put the chip on.

Did they not ask you at packet pickup if you needed one?  If they were only giving away plastic strap thingies I would be very surprised they would have taken your purchased one.  If the race was using good neoprene ones I could easily see this happening.

Bummer.

Botton line....I have never owned one...I just use whatever the race provides....they will ALWAYS give you something to put your chip on...ALWAYS.

I've heard that sometime the ones they give you aren't very good or worn out so some people bring their own strap.  The sprint I did last week supplied them and they were fine.

I did a sprint in May and the ankle strap that they supplied was terrible.  I could feel it starting to peel off during the swim so I had to stop and tuck it under my wetsuit.

The plastic hospital like ones are terrible (even Loose they end up digging into me or causing a blister.) so I am thinking of getting my own Neoprene one. Just make sure you take your own chip off and no worries!

I guess I've been fortunate and only had the neoprene ones given to me. I'm always worried that it might fall off, come off with the wetsuit, etc., so I just use a safety pin to be sure--never had an issue with it.

In all of the races (tris, anyewy) I have done in the past 7 years, they have taken chip and band together.

Thanks.  One less thing for me to worry about today.
