Subject: Javelin parma owners ???
I bought a parma for my son and myself last year during the closeouts, Two guys from work also purchased one. The Campy Xenon shifters appear to be junk from the get-go. It's tough to get a full 9 gears out of the shifter on the rear. I have put about a 1000 miles on my bike and I love the look of it and it seems to fit me perfectly. My problem is I would like crisper shifting and now no matter how I adjust the rear derailleur it is jumping around on me. I doubt the cassette and chain are too worn yet but maybe. Have any of you done any changes to your components positively? It is also hard to find campy components in the USA. So I'm torn with spending $$$ on the components vs. selling bike and buying one with 105 or ultegra components. Any suggestions. Thanks. Al. One more thing, Could I put 105 shifters on the bike and leave everything else normal? or is the shift distance too different?

I do not own one, but just have to say that Campagnolo parts are easily available in the USA.  Check www.Excelsports.com for one very good place and check out www.camponly.com

Have you tried a trip to your LBS?

Have you ever (voluntarily or otherwise!) laid the bike down on the derailleur?   if it's jumping in all gears, the derailleur angle may not be correct.    This generally needs to be set by a special tool, but if you're really good you can get it just by looking at it.   Basically, the rings on your cassette need to be in the same plane as the cogs on your derailleur.   This adjustment is done by tweaking the derailleur mount on the dropout.

Just a thought, before you go spending good race-entry money unnecessarily! ;^)

I seriously doubt there is anything wrong with your shifters or detrailleurs, unless there has been a crash or some other damage. You're going WAY over board with replacing the components or selling the bike at this point.

The first thing I would do I make sure the rear wheel is seated properly in the dropouts. Secondly, I would make some small adjustments to the cables. A cable that is a bit too loose or too tight will cause all kinds of shifting problems, if too tight, you will jump gears, if too loose, you will miss some shifts. Seriously, this is the first thing to check. After this, make sure your cables, housing and everything are in good order, no cuts or kinks, make sure everything is routed properly.

I'm not a tech but I would bet it's a cable problem. The cable is the mechanism that makes the derailleur "work". If it is not working properly, it is probably the cable.

Since there are only 9 gears on the rear, don't expect to use the two extreme crossover gears (i.e. smallest cog-small chainring and biggest cog-bigg chainring).

Before you go drop wads on switching out to Shimano (which will require shift levers, derailleurs, cassette, and rear wheel), spend $40 for the LBS to give it a tune-up.  Chances are the mechanic can get it working right.

Thanks for all the reply's. I'm actually a pretty good bike mechanic, and have built a few bikes from the ground up. From Day one on these Xenon components it was near to impossible to get nine full gears out of them. The skipping is between two of the middle cogs and really feels like a bad chain. I clean and lube the drivetrain regularly so it shouldn't be the case. The derailleur hanger isn't bent and it is in alignement with the top and bottom cog. I'm thinking about just buying veloce or centaur shifters. In my opinion the Xenon shifters are worse than Shimano sora! I will definately look it over again and check my cables and rear wheel alignment.
