Subject: Now what?
I'm into the last of a training program to prepare for a 1/2 Iron Man. The event is Sunday and we're in the taper week. I feel great, got through the whole program (which we stuck to religiously) and am ready to go.

I'm also entered in another event that takes place in late August. My question is what kind of training program do I go on for the month between events? The August event is an Olympic distance.

Take a week or two off after your 1/2 ironman and then just do some speed work mixed in with some long stuff?

I'd say you could just pick up on a training plan from the x number of weeks out from your next race?

x2.  This is exactly how my summer started with my first HIM and an Oly 3 weeks later.  I took off ONE day after the HIM and got right back on track until it was time to taper for the Oly.  I took 3rd overall for the ladies in the Oly so that seemed to work for me Wink

I'll try to bridge the first two together.  Take a few days off.  Take two weeks to recover.  That just means rest up, then keep it short and light for a few days.  Build up a little duration the second week, then I'd probably pick up the last few weeks of an Oly plan.

The week after the HIM you shouldn't do anything too structured, take a few days off, do a few light swims or bikes, maybe a run.

After that pick it up in the Oly plan, so you'll have about 3 weeks of speed work followed by a 1 week taper (race week) for the Oly. If that falls into place right... otherwise 2 on 1 off, repeat to race day.

I did my first 70.3 four weeks ago and coasted in the "Now What?" zone for a while. The only thing I can add to all the great advice here is to beware of a potential letdown after finishing the HIM...Make a plan and reset goals. Good luck!
