Subject: Camelbak

I received a Camelback for Christmas this past year, one that also has a small pack built in.  I have used it as a daypack, but have not filled it with fluid yet.

Now I am the type of person that must wash everything before I use it.  Is there some cleaning procedure to do to these before use?  Is it as simple as a hot water rinse?

a little dish soap ans water and close it.  The shake it up.  Rinse with cold water until there are no more soap suds.  You should also be able to remove the water reservoir to clean.   When you are done using it let it dry with the resevoir open.

Camelbak also makes some special cleaning brushes and tablets for use in their bladders.  They're pretty expensive and not really worth it in my opinion.  Dish soap and water FTW unless you really gunk up your bladder.

I don't even use dishsoap with mine, but only water goes in, and I store it in the freezer when it's not being used.

I haven't used dish soap, but when I have used denture cleaning tabs.  Just be sure to rinse really really well afterwards, or the water will taste very funky. But assuming it is new, I am not sure I would feel the need to clean it before the first use.  I only clean them when they get a little funk going.  Sniff test before refilling usually tells me when that is.

I clean mine with a bottle brush every few uses and store in the freezer to prevent mold and bacteria growth. (I only use it for water, no sports drinks) Be a miser with the soap so you don't end up with globs of it at the bottom that get caught in the tube or take forever to get out.

The other alternative is to toss a couple denture cleaning tabs in it.
