Subject: Too many teams?
So with the announcement of Team Radio Shack (lol) and the possible addition of Sky Cycling rumors of Wiggins heading there and some new spanish team possibly containing contador.

Will there be too many teams  to compete for Grand tour entries?  3 new teams next year possible all could have legitimate GC contenders.  Does that do anything to some of the weaker teams?

Any thoughts?

Bye Bye Bbox, Skil Shimano, Cofidis.  I mean really, why are some of those guys out there? Because they're french?

It means that any of the Continental Teams will have a harder time getting invites to the ProTour events. Bbox, Agritubel, etc.  It's a shame becaue they do get really good exposure for the team and the riders get great experience so that maybe they can one day move up to a ProTour team.  Maybe they will just expand the field for future races, who knows?

Um, the new teams need a protour license to be eligible, other than a 'special invite'.

As of now (no protour teams have stepped away from 2010 sponsorship), there's nothing there. If two teams cave (gotta assume Astana is one - given at least 10 of the guys will follow JB/Lance), there's two. But no guarantees, especially how the French like Lance.

Yup what Rick said..

I would see Astana caving....

Contador going to Caiise D'Epargne perhaps.....

As for Wiggans... would be surprised to see him leave Garmin without a really good reason...

Lance is referring to the team as a Pro Tour team so perhaps they are planning on ponying up the cash...UCI has been known to expand the number of teams if a serious contender comes along and has the cash!

Contador has allready been linked to a new spanish team, and the sky team supposedly has the $$ as well as the RadioShack team allready stated they will compete for 2010 TdF.  I know they can't necessarily say that but if they have a serious team, not really a chance they don't get an invite.  The french people seem to love lance, the French folks that run the TdF might not but when the people and the President do, they won't have much choice.

These new teams seem to plan on building serious contenders.

I got this idea from reading an ESPN article.  I know even in the top 10 of cycling website knowledge but they do make a good point.

Sky have been planning this for a couple of years now, hence my satellite subscription going up & up.

Yeah, Vink wants to keep Astana going (although he is dirty laundry)

Would Contador go to Eskudidu Estidal (sic) (don't think he is Basque) (hey I have an Orbea/cut me slack).  Or someother Spanish team.

Isn't the limit 21 teams for the TDF? or 20?
