so, i now have a pair of nike+ enabled shoes.

i went to the nike site to see what the point was.

i don't think it is worthwhile - is it?

do you use it?

I have had two Nike+ devices that I used in my Brooks running shoes and though they worked okay, the novelty wore off and I have since quit using it.  It was fairly accurate for awhile and they they started shutting down on me on runs.  Never did figure out why.  I just use USTAF website to map my runs and track my mileage.

I used it when it first came out.

Advantages:
1.  it talks to you with speed and distance.  This makes running in the dark easier.
2.  I set up a 90 bpm drum as my "motivation" song.  I would periodically hit the button for it to check my cadence.

I have since stopped using it.

I run with my iphone as it is so when I upgraded from the 3G to the 3Gs a few weeks back I went and got the nike+ sensor. Found out later I could have just bought the replacement sensor not the kit with the receiver but no one local sells that and with shipping from apple probably would have been about the same price.

I've only used it a few times since I hurt my achilles tendon on the 5th or so day using it but I like it. I'm sure it may wear off at some point but I don't see that happening. I'm not going to stop running with my iphone since I don't like running without music so I might as well keep using it.

I have Brooks that do not have the thing for the sensor so I just got a silicon holder that attaches to the laces off amazon for about 5 bucks shipped. The yellow, orange and green ones were only 1.88 and I have orange shoes so it worked out

since ipods/iphones are related  I have yet to find an armband holder for the iphone but I was at marshalls or similar one day looking for some all-clad stuff and saw an ipod touch armband for under 10 bucks, I was able to relieve it up top enough that the iphone slips in. Been using it for months and works great. little snug getting it in and out and have to position the volume control right but works great.

If you are OK with rough distance approximations, go for it.  If you want exact distance, this probably isn't the tool for you.  I find that on my slower runs, it is very close--within a tenth of a mile or so.  But at faster paces it really starts to get off--sometimes more than half a mile.

In fairness, I used the out of box calibration--I did not do the self calibration so it may be better if you do that.

I still use it, just to get a feel for the distance if I am going on an unknow route but I always check with the Route Creator here before I log actual distance.  Also, having Lance Armstrong tell you that you just completed your longest ever run is fun! Laughing

I use it...but I dislike Nike shoes so I use it with my mizou's ....I absolutely love it...sure it might be a little off...but its cheap...and it talks to you. I always run with it...unless its raining cause I don't want my ipod to get wet.

I used it religiously for 8 months.  The accuracy varied by run, but I found mine to be usually off by 10 percent.  The pluses for me were the power song, verbal feedback, and the nike plus website keeping track of all my runs for me.  I have now switched over to the garmin 405 so I don't use the nike plus as much, but if I hadn't bought the garmin I would still be a nike plus user.

I was never able to get it to work right so I took the thing back.  Not worth it.  My iPod is much better

thanks for the input.

i only have the old text only 2 GB ipod so I would prob have to buy a wristband and or new ipod so I think it was just wasted money in my case (it was unnecessary junk that came with the shoes I bought).

i just figured since i have it why not use it? I suppose if I eventually get a newer ipod, i'd try it but it doesn't sound like it is worth going out of my way for.

I love my Nike+.  I never go for a run without it.  I did the calibration run, and I've tested it's distance against maps/my cars odometer before and it's close enough for me.  Within a 5k, it's never been more than 100 meters off.  I use mine with my New Balance shoes though because my foot is just too fat for Nikes.
