So another weekend is upon us, and I have yet another opportunity to get some OWS in on Saturday and Sunday. Has anyone discovered a good spot where you won't get stung? I mean, I can always try my magical anti-jellyfish potion, but I'd rather not...

I'd be looking for something on the early side either Saturday or Sunday... Ideas? I was actually contemplating a trip up to Cascade Lake--I know it's a nasty little lake but as I recall it was open to swimmers all season...

IME boating on the chesapeake, there are less nettles the farther up the bay you go.  We went skiing in the south river (just south of annapolis) this past weekend, pretty far up river, and 5 of the 8 of us got stung.  This same time last year we went in Dundee Creek (which is right next to Gunpowder State Park which has a public beach and OWS) and no one got stung.

Recent rains will also help to flush the nettles out a little bit (though you are stuck with them for the rest of the summmer at Sandy Point).

Oh wow, I never knew there was a public swimming area at the Dundee Marina. My family has a "shore shack" on the Dundee River, but swimming from there is pretty icky. I usually just pay my money and go to the park. Plus it's nice having the jetty's there which are 100 yards apart. Makes it easy to keep track of your distance!

I can second Josh's recommendation though, there aren't any jellies or nettles in that neck of th woods.

How's the water at Gunpowder? Seems like a good option.

The water is ok.  I swim there about once a week, haven't been sick yet so I guess thats a positive thing.

Lots of sea grass. You have to go out past the boating area buoys to get away from it.

If I'm not mistaken, you cannot swim at the Marina.  The marina is a right turn, the park entrance and swim area is a left turn.  They are on opposite sides of the same peninsula.

I find it much better to stay right by the rope. Out towards the buoys is where it's really grassy. Yuck.

Update - August 15...

FYI I was at SPSP today and on a boat just outside the park for several hours.  I was fishing (looking at the water the whole time) and did not see one jelly.  Two weeks ago when I went they were everywhere.  I did end up about 10 miles south of the bridge too (just south of the tip of kent island)... there were TONS in the water there.

Not a promise, but some intel that you may be able to have a jelly-free swim at SPSP at the moment.
