Biker killed during Tri

Expert  703   Colorado Springs |  Subject: Biker killed during TriA racer was hit and killed by a car today in the Sawyer Park Tri in Louisville today. It certainly changes the mood and thoughts of a race when you pass Fire & Rescue and police vehicles with lights blazing, a mangled bike, and feet sticking out from a white blanket. It happened on a straight, open, flat stretch of 4 lane road with monitors at all intersections and almost no traffice. I finished the race, but I am a little freaked out. |

Expert 1203 | Subject: RE: Biker killed during Tri It slowed me down quite a bit. Kind of put it all in perspective. This was my first Triathlon and I was able to finish the race but they shut it down almost right after I crossed the finish. Prayers to the family of the fallen athlete. |

It is on a stretch of road that cars will top 60MPH at times so it's a little frightening when there is not a race. I am suprised with all of the bikers on this road someone could still manage to find a way to hit one. |

Louisville has a HORRIBLE record for letting drivers off the hook for killing cyclists. Maybe this one will be different, due to all the circumstances. I definitely will be praying for the racer's family too. |

Probably good that driver is being charged with assaulting the officer, because he is more likely to serve time for that than for driving drunk, killing the cyclist and fleeing the scene. Murder with a car is not treated like other murder.

Hope they lock him up for a long time. Most likely, but they probably passed out at 2-4am and then got up at 8-9am to go home. I did that a ton when I was younger thinking you are sober when you are no where close to sober. What's most disturbing is didn't someone say earlier it was a 4lane road that was also straight? Most my tris have been on two lane roads that often curve. Might need to get a mirror for the bike (Is that against USAT rules?). That sucks and is very sad, but hopefully it won't scare anyone away from triathlons. |

I always wonder how many cases like this need to happen before judges and lawmakers start making this kind of heinous behavior more accountable.
