Going on a "vacation" next week M-F there. Not really a vacation for me as I will be working during the day as normal, and need to get training in (peak month for HIM).Is there decent biking that is safe and can get reasonable distance, plan only calls for an hour, so maybe a good 20 mile ride?

yep,

where in OC are you staying?  If you in OC OC.. aka 1st -100 some odd street then you have to get up pretty early to bike across the inlet bridge.  Wouldn't recommend it but I did see it happening last week when I was vacationing down there.

I would recommend maybe a ride to Assateague and back.  Take 611 straight out, the road splits to go toward Assateague or to Southern point (I think).  Take Southern point. Its basically a small circle loop and you come back to 611.  Head back 611 towards OC, and your round trip is around 24 miles.  12 out and back.  I have others to Berlin but I forget all the roads.  I also have another version of the Assateague route that will give you around 30ish.

Let me know if you need anymore rides.  Good luck.

TONS of options if you can get off the island.  Most roads have large shoulders and are in decent conditon.l  I agree that riding to assateague is a nice ride from OC.
