Didn't know about this race, might go for it next year, If the beach run part of the tri is really on the beach and not the boardwalk that will be a tough 5k. It does look like a cool race though. I have been to Wildwood several times the streets are all flat and fairly well maintained.

Here is the race website if anyone else is interested http://www.delmosports.com/home.asp

I've done it a couple of times. It's a blast. The beach run is GREAT. It's on the hard sand so it's not tough to run on at all but it doesn't beat you up. The bike course is (or it was when I did it) three loops but it's closed to traffic. I didn't think it was crowded...but I might be strange in that I LIKE having people out there with me on the course, it gives me targets to try to pick off.

The swim can be a little gnarly, but they've had rough seas enough in the past I think they are due for about ten straight years of calm water! Plus if it's too rough you can switch to the Du (which I did one year literally 10 minutes before the start).

If you are thinking of signing up better do so quickly, my wife just talked yesterday to Steve (the RD) and they are almost at the limit of 500.

I highly recommend doing this race. Steve Delmonte puts on a 1st class race. I have done it the last 3 summers and I am (possibly) skipping it this year to rest a little.

Tough ocean OWS, run thru soft sand to T1, 3 loops on the bike course that gets a little congested and then a beach run for aproximately 2.5 miles until you reach the asphalt bike path that ends at the finish line. By far one of the toughest sprints I have done.

I am looking forward to it. This will be my 2nd tri, 1st one was only last weekend (Pequannock), needless to say I'm hooked.  I plan to round out the season with the Bassman Sprint in October.

I've run enough on the Wildwood beaches to know that the sand at the shoreline is very compact and in my opinion easier to run on, and on the knees than pavement.  Getting through the soft stuff could be challenging, however the beach is narrow in North Wildwood compared to the 1/4 mile trek to the shorline in the Crest.  I am really looking forward to the challenge of an ocean swim, this will be my 1st.

Does anyone know when/where race packet pick up is?  I thought the $102 was a bit steep for a sprint fee and here comes a dumb noob question, but what is Tri-Fit and how/why to become a member?

answered my own question...

"Packet Pick up will be Friday, August 21st from 4-7pm at the Matador Motel, 15th and the Beach. Race Day Packet Pick up will be Saturday, August 22nd from 6-7am, at the Matador Motel, 15th and the Beach. There will be a race meeting at 7:15am at the 15th and the Beach in front of the North Wildwood Beach Patrol. Be ready to start the race at 7:30am SHARP."

Steve DelMonte puts on a great race. Did this race 2x and always fun! The beach run is tough but the cool ocean breeze at the end of the race is awesome! The guy is a top notch racer himself and really cares about the athlete. Great food at the end!! And great prizes.

Looks like we are headed towards the swim being canceled. Cry Thanks Bill!  I'll be bummed! I am/was really looking forward to the Ocean swim.  I will keep hope that is will remain, but the surf report looks omnious!

Didn't want to admit it - but with the possible cancelation of the swim - sorta makes me glad I missed this race this season. First time in 3 years I will have missed this race.

yeah I spoke to a good friend who talks to Delmonte and said that the reality of a Duathlon is farily likely.  Saturday it's going to be 10ft to Double Over Head surf pending where your at on the Jersey Shore.  I say forget it..... Get a surf board or ocean kayak and get out and hit the waves!!! This stuff only happens every blue moon here in Jersey!
