Subject: mountain bike aero bars
I've been thinking of putting a set of clip on aero bars on my mountain bike, mostly for comfort on rides.  Both wrists have been busted up in the past, and I have pain/numbness issues when riding.  I'm thinking an an aero bar shouldn't hurt the wrist as much since the weight would be on my foreams.

But, being a mountain bike, I've got a 25.4 (1") bar clamp, and the bar I have tapers almost immediately down to 7/8".  I don't see any aero bars desigend to fit this, they all say either 25mm or 31.8mm.

Do I just pick one and shim the clamp with something?  Is there anyone who makes an aero bar specifically for a MTB?  I know I've seen it done before, yes I know it will look silly (as if it doesn't allready with a suspension fork and slicks...), but I really think I would benefit from getting the weight off my wrists.

thanks for any tips!

I have aero's on my mb.  Works well.  I used a rubber garden hose to make my shims as this provides a  good grip.  Works great!  It looks different, not silly.  It's good to be different.

I had my LBS order a set and mount them to my MTB.  They used some rubber for shims, but they are still a little loose.  after a few rides, I realized I actually liked the little bit of play in them, i can push them forward and really lean into my ride.  Most people will say aero's on a MTB is like lipstick on a pig, but I really found them helpful.  Took some time to get the seat position right to be comfortable in and out of the aero postiton.

I bought these, only cost me $55 installed http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.torpedo7.com.au/torpedo7/images/products/TZHBAW8TB_large.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/TZHBAW8TB&usg=__X0FKTHF68afxL7MXHGsUwGrSiCc=&h=206&w=275&sz=8&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=4wSl0XuENP0IrM:&tbnh=85&tbnw=114&prev=/images%3Fq%3DTRANZX%2BTriathlon%2BClip%2Bon%2BAeroBars%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us%26sa%3DN%26um%3D1

Great idea fellas!

If my trade of my MTB for a roadbike falls through this weekend, I think I'll go this route also.

If anyone of you Naperville (or other west Chi-town burbs) want to gothis route and need help, PM me... I can make it fit to your MTB no problem.
