I was just reading race reports from the Richmond Sprint Triathlon. In the last three years, the temperature has ranged from 45 to 55 degrees! I thought it would be much warmer than that! Is that pretty typical? What would you do differently if the temp is that cool than if it were 60 or 70 degrees? I knew that I wouldn't be ready for our local one in Aug, so I looked for one within driving distance in the time when I thought my swim would be ready...I was hoping for a bit of warmth, though! Might need a snowsuit at that rate!

It seems like that weekend is always the first cool weekend of the fall - at least the years I've done the race. I usually have a zip up jacket in transition and put that on over my tri suit in T1.

I did the Richmond sprint in 2008 and it was great. I don't remember the cold being a factor. I wore my tri shorts and sleeveless tri top. I may have been chilly when I exited the pool and in T1 but after 5 minutes on the bike you will be sufficiently warmed up.

My all time BEST bike tip: Ski helmet for biking Maryland winters. Works freakin' great. Mountain and roadie. SPecialized defroster shoes + Home Depot gloves (you'll know them when you see them) + ski helmet = ride all winter.
